When I first saw the movie, 'Ace Ventura', it was on NBC. I taped it and the TV version soon became the version I was most familiar with. I lost the tape somehow, so I just decided to buy it on DVD. I got the fullscreen version (was there ever a widescreen version?) on DVD and soon discovered that the TV version had quite a few additional scenes added to it.

The first one I remember missing from the Theatrical version is after the scene, "Snowflake's New Trainer" (which is the only additional scene added to the home video version of Ace Ventura), in which Courtney Cox asks Jim Carey, "Are you finished, Heinz?" Jim (Ace) then goes over to the pool tank filter and pulls out a small jewel (this is the only part of the additional scene that makes it to the theatrical version). He then looks at the camera and says, "Now I'm Finished."

The second additional scene I can remember is Jim (Ace) going to a gas station in "Ray Finkle's hometown" and asking the old guy running the place if he knew where the 'Pig Skin Sportsbar' was. Then after that there is a part where he is in the bar and gets into a fight (and out of it as well).

The only other one I can remember clearly is during the scene when Jim and Courney are at 'Shady Acres'. Jim (Ace) is talking to Tone Loc on the pay phone and then the 'doctor' comes over when Jim hangs up and asks Jim what he is doing. He replies, "That was my agent, I'm the new spokesman for Nike. JUST DO IT!"

There was another scene that made the NBC cut when Jim (Ace) goes into a heavy metal club (again) and jumps up on stage and starts rocking out onto the microphone.

Has anyone else seen theese or have 'em?

Is this the commercial VHS version or is it something else?

The only widescreen version of this movie was released on laserdisc. For some reason Warner Bros. released the DVD in pan and scan only. :realmad:

I believe it's the standard VHS release. I just bought it from Blockbusters about 1 or 2 months after it's release. Hmm, maybe it's one of their first copy rental releases because IIRC I bought it used from them.

Based on Jared's description the version on this DVD is the Theatrical cut.

Anyone know if the widescreen DVD is a good widescreen transfer?
(i.e. not like the AHDN widescreen version)

The US(region 1) DVD is "reformatted to fit your TV screen". One of the main reasons I haven't purchased a copy. There are a lot of really good titles that Warner Bros. has released on DVD that are pan & scan only that I wish they would get around to doing good widescreen transfers of. Beside "Ace Ventura" some of the other titles at the top of my list include:

Private Benjamin
