Anyone seen these yet? I hadn't even heard about them being released. I walked into Tower and saw: The Complete Pluto vol.1, Mickey Mouse In Black and White vol.2 and The Mickey Mouse Club. All in limited edition tins like the earlier ones!

I've looked at the Mickey one: http://www.dvdmg.com/mickeymouseblackwhite2.shtml

I'll watch the other two before long - been too swamped for them!

I picked up all three collections at Sam's Club. So far, I've watched the Mickey Mouse Club. If you are old enough to remember this program when it originally aired (like me), you will be delighted by this Disney Treasure. Basically, you get the original "premiere week" episodes of the MMC, along with a handful of decent (but not mind-blowing) supplements. Back then, each episode was an hour in length (46-47 minutes minus commercials.) The shows are presented exactly as originally aired, complete with sponsor mentions (Sugar Jets cereal, Ipana toothpaste, etc.) The Mousketeer material is solid gold! And, Jimmie Dodd's spectacular songs are just as catchy and indelible as they ever were. Overall, if you are a fan of the show, you will love this set. I hope if they go forward with releasing this material on DVD that they build sets around the many wonderful Disney 'serials' (Spin & Marty, The Hardy Boys, etc.) that were so much a part of the Mickey Mouse Club's appeal and success.

My guess is that this set will prove to be the 'sleeper' hit of this wave of Treasures. Fewer copies of this title were manufactured than the other two animated sets. If you are new to Disney Treasures, you should know that it is an ongoing series of numbered limited editions featuring some of the more rare material from the Walt Disney vaults. Each wave typically sells out within a few months and many older discs fetch high prices on eBay. In short, if you are interested, pick them up now, while they are still regular-priced.

Cheers!

No Bucky Beaver (or any actual commercials :realmad: ) on the MM Club DVDs. Just the sponsor tags.

Picked up all three of these discs a few days ago. Great stuff!!! Definitely grab these while they're available. Most Disney Treasures titles were limited to 150,000 units. The last wave had a couple that had higher runs(as high as 250,000 units). Most of the new batch like the Mickey Mouse Club, and Pluto DVD's are only 130,000, and 110,000 units of each title.

Yeah, but as we saw from the (non-numbered) Costco set, they'll just make more if they run out... :o

Yeah, but as we saw from the (non-numbered) Costco set, they'll just make more if they run out... :o Yeah, Ray. I am still not sure what the point of the Costco discs is/was. It certainly helps to minimize the credibility of the whole "Treasures" concept. I know the Costco discs are not numbered and don't come in tins, but a product that is marketed as a numbered limited edition, should be just that, in my book. When they're gone, they're gone.

Despite my grievance, I LOVE this series! I just wish Disney took half as much care with all their other DVD titles.

I did purchase my set at Costco and they did come in tins. They're not machine stamped with a number on the front like the first two sets of releases were, but with a certificate that's inside the box. The other difference with the tins this time is that the graphics that were screen printed on the back of the tins was printed on light card stock and fastened to the back with rubber cement, and there aren't paper belly bands around the tins. Looks like the folks at Disney were trying to cut corners as far as manufacturing costs were concerned. The only Disney Treasures titles that did not come packaged like that was a special boxed edition that sold exclusively(at least that's the only place I've seen it sold) at Costco. Those had the first seven titles(waves 1 & 2) released. Came in a cardboard box with the double clamshell(w/o tins) DVD boxes inside them. Saw those for sale last Christmas and again about six months later.

Jeff, that is the standard release this time around. The slightly revised packaging you described is the same for all stores. What Ray is referring to is the box set you mentioned - the Costco exclusive. At the time it was rumored that Disney was selling off some manufacturing overstock.

Yes I figured that is what the purpose of that special box set was all about. Selling off overstock. But carrying a sale price of $125 hasn't exactly helped them to move quickly.

I have 'Davy Crockett' from the first batch but haven't picked up any since. I might go for the Mickey Mouse Club but when I got around to seeing them on tv, they were already a few years old and Annette was already doing beach movies. :)

I would REALLY love to see 'The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh' as a Disney Treasure and I understand that it might be coming in the late Spring, early Summer. I hope so.

I wonder if the limited edition thing also works against purchasing. I discovered the series well after the first wave was gone from stores, and didn't want to invest in current and future series if I had to pay upwards of $100 on eBay for earlier animation volumes.

Oops, forgot all about that. I was on a Disney board some time ago discussing whether anyone was REALLY planning to spring for that Spin and Marty set. The consensus seemed to be "no."
