Al Stewart: Year Of The Cat Remaster

Anyone heard the new Al Stewart 'Year Of The Cat' remaster? I had the first MFSL aluminum remaster of this title but it wasn't that great. Hope this is quite a bit better.

Yeah, unfortunately I have it. Check the 'Remasters from Hell' thread. Well, I listed this one. It's awful! An Abbey road studios job...I should have known. Bass and treble peaked and very unnatural sounding...compressed and just plain terrible.

Oh I don't know... I think that my cd-r of the MFSL aluminum is the best I've heard on a CD.

The aluminum MFSL will possibly be the best you'll ever hear on this title. The stock Arista is Ok. The new issue sounds just dreadful. http://www.quake3world.com/ubb/disgust.gif

Ron, can you say rarer than an American $3.00 bill? When you do occasionally see it on ebay, it goes from between $140.00-$200.00 US.

Hey, Ron...I have the MOFI LP (as well as the original MOFI silver CD) and here's my problem:

The first 8 bars of "On the Border" which is a low-octave piano ramp up to the main intro is cut-off on the LP! Yes, it's true!

On the CD, the entire song is there...weird.

I LOVE the MOFI CD - that's the one to have. I'd sell you my MOFI vinyl but it's got a nice scratch in it on "Flying Sorcery."

Seen them for less than $25 on eBay, though.

Yup, yup, yup. Also they used to be allot more plentiful as well, although I know someone who picked up a brand new copy of Alan Parsons for $24.99 somewhere in Minnesota last year. :D for him and:( for me. But hey, at least I was able to get a cd-r out of the deal.;)

"Year of the Cat" was my first MFSL CD purchase. I was in "Buzzard's Nest Records" in Columbus, Ohio and the regular version was $13.99 and the MFSL was $14.99. I wanted to know what the extra $1 was for... now over 60 gold CD's later...I found out. Too bad...as has been discussed many times before...not all MFSL Cd's are worth the extra $1 let alone the $50 or more extra they cost now!!

Then we're bloody well out of luck. I dumped my MFSL CD of this title about a year ago because the sound was just plain soft, dead, muffled.....

I wish I knew now what I knew then (about prices I mean) I also dumped the Sonny Rollins Way Out West. I think I got about $40 CDN for that one and 20 CDN for the Stewart. Why??? Well In the famous words of George Costanza....BECAUSE I AM KING OF THE IDIOTS thats why.

I have the Mo-Fi LP and while it was clean, the midrange was sucked right out compared to the original Janus LP issues. Almost every Mo-Fi LP I own has the midrange sucked out (or lows and highs boosted, whatever).

I liked Mo-Fi for the care they took in their pressings and lowering the overall level to keep away from the label "inner groove" area as much as possible.

But I could never forgive what they did to the sound with their blatant use of EQ.

Tom Port told me the Simply Vinyl "I Robot" is the way this album should sound. He's got 'em for around $30.00.
