I know there was a thread a little while back, but I'm too lazy to dig it up. :)
So, I've had the MoFi vinyl of this album for a looong time (bought it when it came out, in what, 1981? 1982? Somewhere around there. Haven't listened to it since maybe 1985. Probably played it no more than 10 times.
I also have the domestic vinyl that I got from a friend when he gave me his 200+ vinyl collection in 1998. It's probably an early pressing of the album, but not really sure.
So, I just did a comparison with my new trusty MMF-5, and low and behold... I FAR prefer the domestic vinyl. The MoFi is top-heaving to the extreme. WAAAAAYYYY too much treble!
In fact, just for grins I turned up the treble knob all the way on the domestic, and it then sounded almost identical to the MoFi.
The domestic sounds much more balanced... solid low end, pleasing midrange, and a decent top end. My only complaint is that the occasional clarinet (?) solo sounded a bit harsh.
I also burned both of to CDR and listened in the car - same opinion. Indeed, my hears hurt after listening to the Mofi all the way through. The domestic was quite pleasant in comparison.
I remember someone saying that they hated the domestic vinyl. Sounds fine to me though!
Next up is to compare them to the original BiA cd that I have (don't have the MoFi cd).
