Quite some time ago I was staying in a hotel for a few days and I caught the first few minutes of this interesting looking film on, I believe, Turner Classic Movies. I didn't have time to watch it then but it looked interesting and I swore I was going to rent it when I had the time. The only problem is: I forgot. Until now. But after all this time I can't remember the title. Help! :)
It's black and white, if I recall correctly. Probably shot in the 50's. The lead actor was definitely well-known but not on the level of, for example, Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. The details of what I remember are sketchy at best. So here it goes: I believe an earlier scene shows the main character at his place of employment. At some point a conversation with another man (a "government agent" type) outside of the office, maybe at his home, causes him to rush downtown to the building where he works. One scene shows him frantically searching for the entrance to his personal office but the doorway had been plastered over. He seemed to think it was a good joke until he realized no one in the building knew who he was. It was as if someone wanted him erased. I believe the story was leading in the direction of some sort of government conspiracy. And that's about all I remember.
Any ideas? I know there's not much to go on but maybe someone here has an idea. Thanks!
