Quite some time ago I was staying in a hotel for a few days and I caught the first few minutes of this interesting looking film on, I believe, Turner Classic Movies. I didn't have time to watch it then but it looked interesting and I swore I was going to rent it when I had the time. The only problem is: I forgot. Until now. But after all this time I can't remember the title. Help! :)

It's black and white, if I recall correctly. Probably shot in the 50's. The lead actor was definitely well-known but not on the level of, for example, Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. The details of what I remember are sketchy at best. So here it goes: I believe an earlier scene shows the main character at his place of employment. At some point a conversation with another man (a "government agent" type) outside of the office, maybe at his home, causes him to rush downtown to the building where he works. One scene shows him frantically searching for the entrance to his personal office but the doorway had been plastered over. He seemed to think it was a good joke until he realized no one in the building knew who he was. It was as if someone wanted him erased. I believe the story was leading in the direction of some sort of government conspiracy. And that's about all I remember.

Any ideas? I know there's not much to go on but maybe someone here has an idea. Thanks!

I believe the movie you are trying to remember is "Mirage." Produced in 1965 and starring Gregory Peck. The film was in black & white. The plot concerns a man (Peck) suffering from amnesia. As the story progresses he has flashes of memory which reveal a sinister government plot. Not sure if it's available on DVD.

Thanks, Steve. That might actually be it. 1965? If it's the same movie, I really missed the boat on that date. Gregory Peck, eh? Bigger star than I thought. Oh well, I only caught a few minutes of it. I'll have to dig this one up.

If anyone else has any additional ideas on what this movie might be, keep 'em coming. Thanks!

Mirage was also the movie that came to mind when I read your description. I have never seen it on DVD (but I never looked). This was one of those films that seemed to be on endless rotation on one of the local independent TV stations when I was a kid. Funny how I have absolutely no memory of it in the theaters.

It was a pretty good thriller, as I recall.
