This film was recently shown at a film festival in NY, and when I caught the NYT review I couldn't wait to see it. It chronicles Miles' appearance at the Isle of Wight festival, which is the jewel in the lotus. The complete performance is the centerpiece of the film, in glorious color and 5.1 with DTS option. I liked the mix.
As for the buildup, almost an hour of interviews with everyone who was in the band that day (except Miles, of course), plus Herbie, Pete Cosey, Dave Liebman, Carlos Santana, Joni Mitchell, and Stanley Crouch. I would have loved to hear something from Al Foster, John McLaughlin, and current Miles torch bearers Leo Smith and maybe Dave Douglas, but that's just carping. Everyone has something good to contribute, and most of the musicians demonstrate with their instruments as well as their memories and opinions. There's also some tantalizing video of the Cosey Liebman band.
This video was mentioned a couple of times in the thread on best music DVD's, but I thought it needed it's own thread.
A great stocking stuffer for you fusion heads.
