I'm encouraging folks on this site to mosey on over to the Blue Note Bulletin Board and request that they release some of their titles on SACD. A thread has been started here. http://www.bluenote.com/bulletinboard/ubb-cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=19

You will need to register to post a message, but it just takes a minute, and your cybervoices will be appreciated.

Let Blue Note know you'd buy SACDs from them.

I know that (and proved by popular vote recently) that there's not a 'huge' jazz populous lurking around here (except for those too cowardly to admit) but I agree with GregM here. C'mon! Blue Note happens to hold the best catalogue (even over FantasyJazz) of classic Jazz music. Let's please petition them to get some of this great music out on SACD!

Registered and voted.

I didn't like the recent poll. I like a lot of different sorts of music and registered a protest vote by picking "Polka". There should have been an "All of the above" option and I would have taken it.

PS. This board has been set up better. Same BB software as Blue Note. Here we have a much bigger box to type in; and Blue Note don't even have the preview button - a major failing. Thanks HZ.

I love Jazz! And would be extremely interested in quality high-resolution jazz recordings from Blue Note! But for me, it’s more about the music than the medium.

I'm just not that fond of any medium that would intentionally limit previously established user benefits: copy protection, lack of digital outs. There are currently too many digital playback possibilities for me ever to pay only to have those limitations imposed on myself.

Josh, it's because it's about the music that we are requesting BN titles on SACD. We have to ask ourselves whether we're into music for burning/copying it or for listening to it. I really do not care about digital outs, copy protection (as long as it isn't audible) or really any concerns except that the medium get me as close as possible to the recording.

I like having the ability of extracting music digitally and analyzing its content. That this sort of analysis is missing from many SACD and DVD-A comparisons is their biggest failing point. They are both missing a great volume of objective analysis needed in order for either to survive in a truly free marketplace.

I also like the ability of being able to select from over a thousand losslessly compressed CDs, through my DAC of choice, and listen from any part of the house. And of course the freedom to listen to high-quality digital audio in the bathroom, kitchen, backyard, supermarket, car, train, airplane etc.

I don't think it would ever be possible for me to go back to a time when these options weren't available.

I've listened to some of the DAD's that Classic Records sold through license from Blue Note. If it's the clue of things to come, you can bet there's going to be quite a few titles that will sound much better (and more encompassing) on SACD. Give it time. Capitol doesn't seem to be set on anything immediately. It'll happen!

Sckott, actually it's EMI, the parent company. But BN is relatively autonomous and can do what they want as long as they turn a profit. The BN producer, Michael Cuscuna, also produces Mosaic box sets (LP and CD) for his side-company, True Blue. If he wanted to, he could produce SACDs. It's just a matter of having the will, and I think requests from fans could plant the seed. So I would appreciate the effort of denizens here to request SACDs, but it seems like a lost cause.

"Extracting music digitally and analyzing its content" and trying to enjoy "high quality digital audio in the bathroom, kitchen, backyard, supermarket, car, train, airplane etc" may be your priorities, but mine is listening on a system I have carefully set up in my living room. Guess you won't be asking Blue Note for SACDs. ;)
