Does any one remember the ill fated Elcassette? This seemed like an excellent format at the time. I once saw a demo at the Frankfurt audio show and thought the sound quality wasn't bad, especially when compared to standard cassettes. Of course the point is moot now but I just wondered if anyone ever saw or owned one.

Is this the same as the DCC cassette that I believe Philips drived to introduce in the early nineties? It was a digital medium that I believe was backward compatible with tape decks that could play both the old analog as well as new digital tape technology.

No KLM. The ELCASSETTE was a large format analog tape cassette. It was about four times the size of a normal cassette and ran at 3 3/4 ips (twice as fast as a standard cassette). It died on the vine long before there was any digital recording media.

Yeah, those things were huge!!!!! I saw a machine at the Rogerssoundlab Factory Store in VanNuys in the Mid to Late seventies.
