Sckott,

Sadly, both discs have escaped my grasp over the years :(

Several of Madonna's 12" mixes were issued on various Japanese CDs. I just love that 80s stuff.

Prince's 12" singles were issued on various 3" and 5" cd singles going back to 1982's "Let's Work".

Janet Jackson's "Control: The Remixes" disc

Neneh Cherry's "Buffalo Stance" 12" was a bonus track on the Euro CD of Raw Like Sushi.

Ascot, where is the 12" mix of "Let's Work" available on CD? That's always been one of my favorite Prince tracks and that particular 12" is pretty rare since it was his first commercially released 12" single. That's one thing that would be on my wish list of releases would be to do a Prince hits package featuring remixes that have only been released on vinyl. There are a handful of cool ones that have only been released on promo vinyl or as imports like the remix of "Little Red Corvette" which is awesome. In meantime I guess I'll get my vinyl burned onto CD-R.

I know there was an import CD single from Germany. I see it listed on Amazon.com although I don't know if it's still available. You might be able to find it through e-Bay. I have never owned a copy but knew someone who did.

BTW, on Amazon I did a search for "Let's Work" and it came up right away.

There is also a 4 disc bootleg set of Prince's 12" mixes that draws from various sources.

Good luck.

I just recently picked up Big Country's "Greatest 12" Hits" CD, 11 12" singles, 73 minutes of music. I play this in the car and it just rocks!

I have the Cock Robin as a 12" 45rpm on Columbia. I'm not sure if it was put on cd! Sorry, my bad....but it is a great remix and worth checking out.

Michael,

Most of the promos were either single or album versions (a few extended versions) that just sounded great on the wide grooved 12" format. Most are available on CD.

The most diificult to find tracks on CD to find are:

1) The long or remixed 12" versions of late 70's and 80's dance club hits but, many are out there if you really, really dig. Some are OOP.

2) Extended 12" versions of Top 40 hits or those by more traditional rock groups.

If you have any specific questions, please let me know!

Bob

One of my all time favourite 12 inchers has to be...

"Shame" by Evelyn "Champagne" King...simply fabulous late seventies high quality disco.

It is available on a number of CD compilations and still sounds great IMHO.

Bob, I used to own a 12" white colour EP set (2 records) of Billy Idol's White Wedding. It just blew away the regular release, sound-wise. 3 sides were all this one song and I don't remember what was on side 4.

Was this ever released on a cd version? :)

Bob, how did you acquire that copy of the extended cuts from "Saturday Night Fever"? I've been searching for a copy of that for years. Copies of it turn up from time to time on eBay but they cost a fortune!!! Some of the promo and commercially released 12" singles you mentioned got me thinking about some of the ones I have in my collection that are favorites of mine. Do you have any of these?

Do You Love What You Feel-Rufus & Chaka Khan(great extended version of this song. Quite rare on 12".)
Start Me Up-Rolling Stones(LP version, but wide cut grooves sound amazing)
Snapshot-Slave(Another very hard to find 12".)
Funky Sensation-Gwen McCrae
(Everytime I Turn Around)Back In Love Again-LTD
Get Off-Foxy
Give It To Me Baby-Rick James
Let's Work-Prince
Over Like A Fat Rat-Fonda Rae
Never Had A Love Like This Before-Tavares
Encore(long version)-Cheryl Lynn
Hanging On A String(Contemplating)-Loose Ends
I Just Want To Be-Cameo
Ain't No Stopping Us Now(extended version)-McFadden & Whitehead
Blame It On The Boogie-The Jacksons
I Don't Want To Lose Your Love/Flowers-The Emotions
Love's Coming At Ya-Melba Moore
Band Of Gold-Freda Payne(import)
Brick House-Commodores
Ain't We Funkin' Now-Brothers Johnson(The 12" version shakes the paint off the walls!!!)

Blue Monday by New Order (The original remix, not the 90's remixes)
All Frankie Goes To Hollywood 12" versions. The are some of the best ever made, especially Relax and Two Tribes.

*Snapshot-Slave(Another very hard to find 12".)
I'd love to have this one! This song is one of my favorites!

*Funky Sensation-Gwen McCrae
This has been on a Rhino CD. I can't recall the name, but I may have a DAT copy of it.

*Give It To Me Baby-Rick James
I have the 12" and it is on CD.

*Let's Work-Prince
Another one of my all-time favorite 12"! I had to put this on CD-R. This was a great Prince single too! I wonder why it is always forgotten.

*Ain't No Stopping Us Now(extended version)-McFadden & Whitehead
Yes! This one is much better than the LP version.

*Blame It On The Boogie-The Jacksons
I'd like to hear this one as well!

*Brick House-Commodores
Also on CD
*Ain't We Funkin' Now-The Brothers Johnson
Too bad this cut is from a weak album, IMO, but it jams! I'd also love to hear this 12"!

Some of my favorite 12" remixes are:
Shalamar-The Second Time Around
Everybody Dance-Chic
Irresistable Bitch-Prince (not a remix, but one of his best songs!)
Pop Life-Prince & The Revolution
Wikka Wrap-The Evasions (again, not a remix, but a damn good parody of the then growing rap music phenomenon, as seen in the eyes of a stuffy Anglo)

Grant

One more thing: does anybody know if the single edit/mix of "Fall In Love With Me" by Earth, Wind & Fire" ever showed up on CD? It is much better than the LP mix. I had to transfer the 45 to CD-R. It has very good bass.

Kym

Taco, "Puttin' on the Ritz"

Herb Alpert, "Keep Your Eye On Me"

Nick Mason + Rick Fenn, "Lie for a Lie"

OMD, "(Forever) Live and Die"

Antonia Rodriguez, "La Bamba"

Prince & The Revolution, "Kiss"

The Art of Noise, "Legacy"

Hugh Cornwell, "One in a Million"

Jeff,

I picked up the SNF Extended Mixes 12" for $5 back in 1978 at a used record store. The guy that owned it got all kinds of 12" promos from a Radio DJ and resold them in his store, most for $2 or $3. I have the the LTD, Foxy, Rick James, Loose Ends, McFadden & Whitehead, Jacksons, Commodores and Bros. Johnson 12"es. Ain't We Funkin' Now is a red vinyl 45 rpm backed with Strawberry Letter #23. Both sound super!

Great list!

Bob
