Do you guys remember the recurring Saturday Night Live characters 'The Fops?' It was Mark McKinney and David Koeckner dressed as 18th century 'dandys' or 'fops' complete with the powdered wigs and Mozart outfits.

These sketches are some of my all time favorite moments on SNL because it was just sooooo strange and bizarre. I have not seen these sketches in ages. Has anyone seen these on E! on SNL reruns, or better yet, are there any SNL DVD compilations that feature these recurring characters?

Am I the only one who remembers and likes these bits??

I remember a sketch with Buck Henry as one "Lord ******bag". Was that one of those?

I remember the "Fops", but since the people playing them are very minor SNL players, I doubt if you'll see it. I loved the Whiners-Joe Piscopo and Robin (forgot the last name)-but I haven't seen them in years.

NBC ran one of the 80's Piscopo/Eddie Murphy/Julia Louis-Dreyfuss episodes overnight last Saturday into Sunday at like 3am. I fell asleep midway thru. Not sure if they do that every weekend though...

Nope. The fops were introduced during the last major housekeeping sweep where SNL pretty much fired everybody and hired all new cast members. This was the first year that Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, Cheri Oteri, and a few others were on. The fops were one of those sketches that repeated regularly in an attempt to drill fresh SNL characters into our heads. The 'cheerleader' skits with Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri is another example of this. Mark Mckinney stayed around for a few years, but Dave Koeckner was gone after one season.....so that killed the Fops.

They run episodes from various periods of SNL's history. The weekend before last had an episode from 1986 with Ron Reagan guest-hosting(and Terry Sweeney playing Nancy Reagan).
