Owing to the fact that the official EMI Piper at the Gates CD is all but unlistenable I'm wondering which Piper LP is the one to get.

I've owned the Tower Mono and an original Blue/Black Parlophone Columbia. The Blue/Black is the one to get, HOWEVER 99% of all copies that I've come across are VG- and sells in the $250 to $450 range. The Tower version is equally as expensive and even harder to find. Personally, given the money that these Mono pressings go for I'm quite satisfied with the reissue. I don't think anyone considers this an audiophile experience.

No, it's not. It's just a different mix, and just like some Beatles MONO's, some things are a little different in the mix. It's not just a fold-down.

Tommy,
Since you own the early mono lp's how would you rate the mono remaster? Also, didn't they release the mono mix with the other 1997 vinyl reissues (the "peep-hole" ones)? I think I remember seeing it in London.

Owned is the key word. The mono remaster is no noised and digital sounding. I was never impressed by the Tower version at all. Yes the mono was reissued with the others in 97. It is adaquat by nothing to write home about. However lets see a $300 plus for an original versus $25. Unless it is you all time favorite LP and the mono is the only one for you, I'd say get the reissue.

Tommy,
I agree with you about the problems with the remaster (I got that on CD in the purple box when it came out). I was just curious what your impressions were. Yeah, $300 v. $25 seems about right. I remember that '97 was a very cool vinyl reissue year. I was tempted to get the vinyl box but decided not to...

Does anyone know if the '97 Piper Mono reissue was just a clone of the horrid official EMI Piper CD? Anyone know w/ original UK first pressings are the ones to get?
