Ok, this has been driving me nuts. What was the name of the suspense/horror film from the late 70's or early 80's where the girl (babysitter?) is getting the scary phone calls and she finally gets a call from the police: "We've traced the calls. They're coming from INSIDE your house"!
Thanks in advance!

yep, I saw that one in the theaters. From what I recall, that was basically the entire plot. If there was anything more to it, it was forgettable.

Thank you! I was thinking "He Knows You're Alone" (nope), "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" (nope)...
All I actually remember from that movie was that one scene :D

"Have you checked the children...?"
Scared the hell out of me, I know that.

Was Melissa Sue Anderson's Happy Birthday to Me any good? I have a vivid memory of the poster: the shishkebob going into the throat.

If you dig the typical late 70's early 80's type horror flicks, then this one you'll like.
It's been a little while since I've last watched it but, I believe it also has a scene in there with a guy, possibly played by Danny Bonaduce of Partridge Family fame, getting tossed head first into a television screen.
Good times. :righton:

I own "When A Stranger Calls"...I think the beginning is kind of creepy, but the closet scene at the end has got to be the scariest part in the whole movie. But did anyone else think there was a little too much of that suspense/cello sound going on? Sheesh.

My brother and I did a parody of this on audio cassette when it first came out, even though we never saw it. We used the TV ad as our guide and titled our little send-up 'When A Strange Guy Calls'.

Never saw the film, but the title triggered a faint memory. But why?
Finally I remember -- I saw the poster almost everyday in college. One of the writers went there and the poster hung in the Cinema Annex.

Actually, Danny Bonaduce isn't in the film at all and there is no seen with a t.v. set. It's just been released on DVD (not that bad of a remaster, facial tones a little too pink and the darks could use a bit more contrast) you can rent it from NETFLIX.

Maybe the all-time worst: Maniac, about 1980-81. Anyone see it?

Maniac, 1980, directed by William Lusting who now runs Blue Underground Entertainment. It has a rather strange cult following and at one time it was said that make up effects artist Tom Savini (who has a small cameo in the film and did the effects) denounced it.
Okay, lets play "try and stump stypee with the horror movie game" Any film from 1970 till now..
I live for this stuff, been studying these films all my life.

It seems we have all kinds of expertise on this board! ;) As for Maniac, it's been 20+ years since I saw it, but IIRC, it was simply nauseating. I was going to include a summary of the "plot" in my post, but I couldn't bring myself to do it.

I wonder which movie it was then, because I definitely saw that in a horror film. hmmm

Bonaduce was in a film back in the late 70's called H.O.T.S a pathetically bad teen sex comedy. The t.v. set thing could be a number of films, one that keeps entering my mind is a particular NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET sequel. Don't recall which one. The telvesion set gag has been used in dozens upon dozens of horror flicks, pretty much like the infamous "shower scene".
