What, no Fred Flintstone or Fred Sanford Matt?

What the ??? NO Rubin Kincaid? NO Detective Fish? NO Uncle Fester? And NO Danny Partridge? I'm crying foul over this terrible list! :realmad:

Tear up that list. Try it again. And I want to see Oscar Madison on there, too.

'Cuse my igorance, but who is #2, Ralph Kramden???

Drifter

He is the main character in the classic 50s TV sitcom 'The Honeymooners', played by Jackie Gleason.

The greatest to my mind is Mr. Wilson from Denis The Menace played by the great Joe Kearns. I've never seen a better comic actor.

What, no Fred Flintstone or Fred Sanford Matt?
#40...Fred Sanford

I would have gone with "Cast of Dick Van Dyke Show" rather than just Rob and Laura. A much better ensemble than Seinfeld's cast! Jeez...I would have had "Mel and Buddy" !

Al Bundy

Interesting pick: 89. Lt. Castillo, from Miami Vice, played by Edward James Olmos.

No Felix and Oscar?
No Basil Fawlty?
No Jessica Tate (from Soap)?

I demand a recount!!

The cast of Friends above Emma Peel.

It's just a list compiled by numbers guaranteed to initiate conversation, and to fill a few hours of television scheduling. I would imagine that these type of shows have a low budget, and the editor does a lot of work for little recognition. THe countdown formula keeps you interested, and the short clips fit in with the currentviewers attentions spans.

???? My only recollection of him was his ability to say "Crockett" in a very low gravelly voice!

Steve McGarrett would be on my list too as would Basil Fawlty, as Jimbo reminded me. Also, Patrick McGoohan's Number 6 should be on the list for sure, and near the top!

Agreed! How could you leave out any of these? Puleeeeeeze!

Good to see Jack Tripper in there. John Ritter was highly underrated as a comedic actor.

I would have loved to be in the room when they argued over who should get #98 - Urkel or Screech.

And where the hell's Jack Benny? He was an obvious influence in Kelsey's character, Nigel Crane, but no Jack?

JEFF!

Jack Benny wasn't a character. Well, he was a character, but he was playing himself. Sort of. Oh, hell, you know what I mean! :D

I believe the list was for American TV characters only which would explain the absence of the likes of Basil Fawlty, Emma Peel, Number 6, David Brent, Mr. Bean, Doctor Who, Patsy & Edina, and other great characters from British Television shows.

At least Albert Steptoe and Alf Garnet are there in spirit via their Americanized counterparts of Fred Sanford and Archie Bunker.

Emma Peel is on there, at #52.

Emma Peel is on there, at #52.Well, there goes that theory. They do say something about the characters being "part of the fabric of American pop culture" in the premise for the list, though, which taken at face value, would hamstring many of the UK offerings. I can't believe I forgot to mention her in my earlier post, but I would probably put Detective Jane Tennison from the Prime Suspect series in my personal top ten.
