Just finished compiling and burning Funk #2, here's the tracklist:

1 James Brown - Get On The Good Foot 5:44 (1972)
Got to open a Funk compilation with the Godfather and this early 70's track is a great way to start any compilation.

2 Average White Band - Stop The Rain 4:29 (1979)
Even at the end of the 70's these Scottish guys were funky. Originally on the Feel No Fret album.

3 Johnny Guitar Watson - The Real Deal 4:54 (1977)
A great albumtrack from the (in)famous A Real Mother For Ya album.

4 Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop 5:17 (1973)
The first track on this compilation from the brain of George Clinton. This guy is/was weird, just listen to the lyrics on this track, pure nonsense, but great music.

5 Isaac Hayes - Hung Up On My Baby 6:15 (1974)
Isaac Hayes didn't just score Shaft, but also Three Tough Guys. This is a track of the soundtrack to that movie. Just a nice cool instrumental.

6 Ohio Players - Ecstasy 2:27 (1973)
From the time they were on the Westbound label, a short funky song.

7 Jackie Wilson - Light My Fire 2:47 (1969)
Jackie Wilson and Funk? Right! This cover version of The Doors classic is very funky indeed. Jackie is backed up by the Young-Holt Trio, so it's got to be funky.

8 Mago Do Tagarela - Melo Da Tagarela (Rapper's Delight) 4:09 (1980)
A Brazilian cover of the first Hip Hop record ever released. Instrumental and funky, Chic -> Sugarhill Gang -> Mago Do Tagarela, get it!

9 P-Funk All Stars - Pumpin' It Up 6:52 (1983)
The second track with George Clinton involved. From the 80's (normally a bad sign for funkiness), but this is one funky jam. Like always nonsense lyrics.

10 Commodores - Look What You've Done To Me 3:54 (1975)
An albumtrack from the great 1975 album Caught In The Act. Couple of nice breaks in this one.

11 Don Julian And The Larks - Shorty The Pimp 5:34 (1973)
With a title like that it's gotta be funky, right? Right! A slow groover from a very unknown film.

12 The O'Jays - Give The People What They Want 4:09 (1975)
"Give the People What They Want" was the O'Jays' funkiest track to date. Stinging, flanged bass, punchy horns, and sizzling high hat accented the lyrics' call for equality and truth. "Give the People What They Want" went to number one R&B and number 45 pop in summer 1975. (AMG)

13 Rose Royce - Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is 3:24 (1976)
From the Car Wash soundtrack. Funky, up-tempo, funny.

14 The 24-Carat Black - Ghetto: Misfortune's Wealth 3:39 (1973)
Funky music with a message, from the early 70's. Nothing wrong with a message, but nowadays...

15 Sly & The Family Stone - The Same Thing 2:38 (1979)
From the Back On Track album.
Judged solely on its own terms, it's actually a respectable slice of funk. (AMG)

16 Bill Withers - Who Is He (And What Is He To You)? 3:11 (1972)
One of my favorite artists and one of my favorite tracks. Slow, funky and accusing...

17 Parliament - Funkin' For Fun 5:55 (1976)
Final track involving George Clinton, final track on the album The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein and final track on this compilation. The title says it all...

Maybe you could "pitch" this track lineup to Rhino as a possible Millennium Funk Party -- Vol. 3? :D

Dan,

Excellent and unique program, mix and sequencing. Not the usual hits that is for sure!

Thanks for sharing!
