I love to burn CD comps for myself and friends. The problem is, tracks from different CD's are at different volumes. Some songs are loud, and the next one will be softer, then loud again. It is especially noticable when I use a song from an older CD, then one from a newly remastered one (these are almost always louder). I use EAC to copy to my hard drive, then burn to CD using Easy CD creator. I tried the normalize feature in EAC, but it doesn't seem to help when I am using several source discs. Is there any way to get all of my tracks close to the same volume so I don't have to keep adjusting the volume when I play them?

Chris, CD Architect (which I'm not sure is still on the market) works very well for these volume differences. You can adjust volume, fades, track spacing, etc by hand. I use the pluggin version with Sound Forge 4.5.

Chris, what you want to do is RMS normalization. You can do this in Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and it is VERY accurate! I use it all the time! The other way is to open each file in an audio editor and do ot all by ear.

Does it also work with Cool Edit 2000? I don't have Pro.

You may want to take a look at Volume Balancer at This Web Site (http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~abcomp/volbal.htm). It's written for Windows. You can trial the unregistered version. It has all the features, but only changes the first half of the file. This program has a reasonable $15 US shareware fee.
