Wondering about the new Dire Straits Sultans of Swing video hits DVD. The back of the disc says 2.0 stereo, but a sticker on the front says 5.1 Stereo. If it's the latter, i'll get it, but I've also read reviews of the DVD from England and Australia which refer to there only being a stereo mix. So I'm

5.1 stereo sucks big time. Better off waiting for a 5.1 surround sound version.

On a related note "On The Night" is now out on DVD (stereo only) as well as Mark Knopfler "A Night In London" (also stereo only). Will we ever get Alchemy on DVD?

What's on the disk, and do any retail stores have it, or I do I have to order it from Amazon. I've noticed DVD Planet doesn't have it.

It's at HMV here, and it seems to be their videos.

I STILL kick myself for selling my VHS Hi-Fi copy of Alchemy.

Went to HMV last night, and asked a salesguy about whether the disc was 5.1 or 2.0, told him it was a decisive selling point for me. First he said it must be both, but I pointed out the 2.0 designation on the back. He went around the store for a few minutes, spoke to his supervisor, and came back and said the sticker would be pulled off all those DVDs, as it must be a mistake. I told him the same thing happened with the Dave Matthews Band Central Park triple CD, which said 5.1 Audio. Those stickers are still on those CDs! He was dismayed at that.

The EU PAL version is PCM 2.0.
I guess R1 NTSC version is the same.

I just got the R1 version today. It is absolutely fantastic. LPCM stereo. Playing it thru the Wadia dac unit right now with the 48khz indicator lit. Had the 5.1 sticker on the front. That's just an error.
