Was looking at The Who's Ultimate Collection yesterday at Best Buy (No I didn't buy it) and noticed a sticker on it that said something to the effect "Bargain" as heard in the Nissan commercial. Now Pete sold this song to Nissan so that they could sell cars. Now the commercial is being used to try and sell the CD. Is this some kind of weird 21st century synergy, or what?

Don't mind me, just some random marketing related thoughts.

They did the same thing with Nick Drake's Pink Moon. Used the Volkswagen commercial that it appeared in to try and sell the disc. What a crying shame!

Next, we'll see stickers on Zeppelin IV to this effect:

"Rock & Roll, as featured on the Cadillac commercials". The music is compressed to hell and blasted through some horrid flange/reverb or something.

First, I thought, how could they sell the rights to play this song for a commercial?

Then I thought, how could they sell the rights to GM! I wouldn't want to associate my great music with a GM car/truck. I've owned a couple GM lemons in my time, so those who love their vehicles, please forgive my acid-tongue :D

Yeah, I didn't like that much either. But with Drake, the commercial was how I first heard his stuff! Some of these commercials do serve a purpose. As soon as I heard that track on the commercial, I was blown away. If they hadn't brought this great stuff to our attention, thousands would have never been exposed to his genius. I think that would be a crime.

What I'm saying is, the world is better off today now that Drake is being picked up in the mainstream! As for The Who and Zeppelin, that's different. It's just another way to turn a quick couple hundred grand (anyone know the figure these guys get?).

Using one product to sell another:

As Austin Powers would say...

It's just a little "Cross-Mojo-nation", that's all! :p

Is anyone else even MORE tired of Bare Naked Ladies since hearing them played ad-nauseum in their car commercial?

On the other hand, I LOVE Marc Bolan's 20th Century Boy. What crazed Ad Guy ever thought to use that cut? Give him (her?) a raise is all I have to say!
