Up until recently I figured I was happy to carry on buying CDs despite my decision to embrace SACD at the beginning of the year. I currently only have 5 SACDs!
However, in light of recent announcements concerning the Stones, the Who, CCR etc. coming out on SACD is it time to curb my spending on CD?
I am specifically thinking of new remasters on CD such as the European Everly's Warner years re-issue program (anyone know when the next batch are out - they seem to be delayed?). I assume that any major company investing in re-issue programs in recent months would be future proofing by mastering to hi-res digital before downsampling to 44.1KHz/16-bit for CD production (anyone know if this is the true?) in which case it may be worth waiting for the re-master to appear on SACD (or DVD-A :p).
I would feel a bit put out if I had forked out a weeks wages on the latest batch of CD re-masters only to find SACD releases of the same material coming out a few months later!
There are CDs out there that may well never appear on SACD in their current form which I am still happy to take a risk on, but I have a feeling that new re-masters may be an expensive mistake......
