I have watched about 10 minutes of the Elton John Dream Ticket DVD and I am HUGELY DISAPPOINTED!! :(

This box set has four discs. The first is a recording of a concert in Madison Square Garden in 2000. I have a Marantz projector that projects a crisp image on a 110" screen. This DVD is virtually unwatchable! The video quality is hideous. The resolution sucks. It looks like it was recorded on standard VHS tape and transfered to DVD. Plus, the video is so bad that I can't determine if it is in wide screen or not. The audio is nothing to get excited about either. It is, well, mushy.

Discs two and three have better quality video and audio. However, the video resolution still stinks.

Disc four is a montage of Elton John's video's, so the audio and video quality is all over the place.

I am really surprised that Elton John let this piece of S**T out on the market. If I was him, I would be really embarrassed. Of course, maybe he had no control of this thing.

Unless you are true to the wool Elton fan, pass on this thing.

I agree. I was just about to post something on this. I spot played some of the discs in the set, and I was not impressed. I too have a front projector that looks "stunning" with HDTV. However, with these DVDs using my 3910, the video is horrible. Compared to the Crossroads DVD which I bought at the same time, these look worse than VHS.

Also, disc 4 has some EJ videos. One of my favorites was "I'm Still Standing". Although it is listed, it is NOT the original video, but a new video montage that runs over a LIVE version of the song.

The one thing that moved me was the story and the video of "Empty Garden". I had never seen it, and to hear Elton tell the story of the song, and how he cannot sing it live because he gets to angry, then to watch that video and see the expression on his face during it is very emotional. I'm glad I got to see it, that was worth it, but again the video quality was bad, and the 5.1 sound was really 3.1 according to the 3910.

All in all, I would not suggest to anyone to get this one unless you are a REAL die hard, or you have a crappy TV! :D

I was thinking about getting this DVD set but now I think I will pass on it. Thanks for posting regarding the poor quality. I am not enough of an Elton fan to buy it.

I must agree on the video quality on the MSG perfromance. It is below average, though it is a 16x9 recording. This dvd has been available as "One Night Only" for a few years. But the audio to me is another story. The mix was done by Frank Fillipetti who also mixed and mastered James Taylor's Hourglass Sacd and his Live At The Beacon dvd video disc. The DTS track on the MSG performance sounds fine. It makes my Sunfire subs purr. The bass is quick and accurate. The musical performance is very good as well as it is a "greatist hits" performance and seems to work on a lot of levels. I have used "One Night Only" as a demo for quite a while now and it does not dissapoint.

I cannot comment on the other dvd's though, just the MSG disc. :)

I know of DVDs that are fine on regular TVs but suck on high res projectors.

Is this one of them? Does it look decent on a TV?

I'd love to see a DVD chronicling his 70's performances. I realize this may be easier said than done due to legal issues and such but I can dream.

Mary J. Blige. I thought she was too showy, but she helped bring some life to an otherwise dull song...

I watched it on my standard TV. The video on the first disc is still soft, but not as bad as on my projector. The large size of the screen in my HT makes the first disc look really bad. It is the worst looking disc that I have ever seen.

So does anyone know how much cash Elton John gets for these DVDs?

Or how much the Four FLicks did for the Stones?

Wasn't the FF Stones DVD only $29.99? Compared to Elton's $39.99

Don't think there is anything wrong with the video quality, DirecTV has been playing the whole DVD box set on their Freeview channel for some time now and the picture looks fine on a standard CRT television.

Sure, the MSG concert is not as crisp as it could have been, but both the Turkey and especially the London performance (which was probably recorded in high-def) are stunning to say the least.

It's kind of funny to see people blowing up 480p DVD sources to a huge screen and complaining they don't see HDTV quality video (which has six times the resolution)...

 Yes I would love to Elton when he was in his prime! His voice was so great back then. Does any film of his Thanksgiving show @ MSG (with John Lennon) exsist?

Thanks for the warning. I was going to buy the EJ set to play on my front projector. The Crossroads Guitar Festival double DVD set has great music, video and sound quality.
