I missed this week's episode of Lost and would like to see it before next summer's reruns. Has anyone ever tried to locate TV episodes like this on-line? Is it a complicated process? I'm not trying to break copyright laws here, just see an episode of a TV show I missed first time around if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.

Be cautious of the 3 different cookie deposits for Spyware.

Dur? Cookies are fairly easy to reject.

Suprnova.org tends to be a great resource for this sort of thing, especially as popular shows tend to get swarmed fairly quickly. There are several big TV Torrents sites, also.

ABC will run it in prime time before xmas (if not thanksgiving) They've finally got a few hits so I'm sure they'll overexpose them. Maybe weekends or overnights at the least.

Many "cult" TV shows are being traded on filesharing networks, but the recording quanlity varies a lot, it can take a long time (days!) to download depending on the lenght of the waiting queue for that file, and most importantly it is illegal because filesharing means that when downloading you are offering for upload thew same data.

In Europe it is still being debated if downloading is illegal, but uploading (offering copies) is certainly illegal. I'm only speaking of copyrighted material of course. TV shows, even if available on free TV, is copyrighted material and must not be distributed without permission.

If you are aware of it and know how. Nice vocabulary BTW.

As for Spyware:

1)Use virus protection (McAfee for me)
1)Create Systems restore points frequently
2)Run (in this order):
CWShredder
AdAware
Spybot Search and destroy

I'll even do the obvious Spyware stuff like http://www.simplemp3s.com

And don't foget Usenet.

Let me be the first to say I buy any CD I can, but you know there are things not for sale.

SUPPORT YOUR ARTIST and PROGRAMMERS dern it.

Thanks for the snipe. It'll be remembered.

Cookies are the lowest form of "spyware," in any case. Suprnova is paradise compared with Bearshare.

David, are you threatening Dave? It certainly reads that way to me.

Do you have any comments before the Gorts take this out of my hands? (I mean comments HERE at www.stevehoffman.tv not elsewhere).

No. According to principles of homeopathic medicine, like cures like. Fever cures fever, cold cures cold, heat cures heat. Vague snippiness must thus be answered with equally-vague snippiness.

Sure. Eat a balanced breakfast, beware of processed sugars, and say your prayers, kids. HULKAMANIA LIVES.

Actually, I reverse my previous statement: for dedicated, I-missed-last-night's-ER-where-can-I-find-it kind of queries, the third-party sites are generally better than suprnova, which is unreliable at best.

For example, their coverage of Daily Show episodes recently has been abysmal, while ShunTV has had them all.

It's really all about hunting around. The legality is clearly either in the grey or red area, but I think it's less morally questionable than downloading something released on DVD...it's not as if you have an opportunity to "buy back" the time to watch that last episode of insert-show-here.

Thanks for everyone's comments. I think I found my missing episode. Now I just have to worry about spyware :sigh: and copyright cops.

The former being more problematic than the latter, one hopes....but D is right, could be worse! If you think the material is worth the risk, well, you take the chance...if not, then, stay away. Dave was just offering fair warning, which I think is classy of him. Good to know those things....

And all I was saying that the "peril" of that particular site is far better than what one usually risks.

Then why didn't you say so in the first place? What was all that other stuff about? I couldn't tell if either you or Dave was having a bad day or something.

I spent 1/2 hour out of my life on a Sunday night with 20 frantic emails convincing a few angry Gorts that you should stick around. I want that 1/2 hour back, please. Can you arrange that for me?

I know...and there are many benign sites I've clicked on, to find out there were loads of spyware all over the place..very sneaky. But I'm armed to the teeth with software to kill as much of that crap as possible and, if I needed something from them, would not hesitate to go there(running some programs afterward, natch! ;) )

As for the rest, just a misunderstanding, I think, that one hopes is over.

With all due respect, you shouldn't be so flippant towards Steve. He's just trying to be a good guy about this.
