Hey all,
With the recent fervor over the upcoming (?) Stones reissues, I figured I'd throw this stumper atcha.
Does anybody here have a pre-ABKCO Japanese pressing of the December's Children CD? (i.e. P33L, P25L, or early POCD?) I have a POCD issue, and the thing's entirely in mono. Now, a few things about this puzzle me:
a) The German London is mostly mono with some stereo mixed in (Get Off Of My Cloud, Look What You've Done).
b) That said, I've heard reports of the above CD occasionally showing up in all mono, but have never had a confirmed source (or, at least, someone who can confirm that it wasn't just a mispressing like certain runs of Hot Rocks 1).
c) My original crackpot theory was that--since December's Children was one of the few Stones albums to NOT have an "early" German issue--the Japanese cobbled together an album master from alternate sources, which would thus make their version somewhat unique (i.e. the only place where a mono Get Off of My Cloud shows up in the London catelogue, thus from a different master). This doesn't hold, though, as the Japanese versions of the two MHR comps are exactly the same as their German counterparts, and THOSE werne't part of the German first run.
d) Maybe it's a copy of the ABKCO CD? Hard to determine, as I don't have a copy of the ABKCO CD. That said, my Japanese CD features the better (i.e. non-Hot Rocks-ABKCO) version of As Tears Go By, which casts some doubt on that theory.
Any thoughts? Better yet, anybody KNOW?
