I noticed the DVD of the Stones Rock and Roll Circus in the stores today. I am wondering if anyone who has picked it up can shed some light on the video quality, sound and the extras on the disc.

The LD was pretty good (only watched it once). I am not sure I will get the DVD. It's not a title that draws me back.

I will probably pass on this one. Too many Christmas presents to buy, but maybe after Christmas?

Already posted this link in the other "Circus" thread, but what the hell - I'm always happy to tout myself:

Thanks Colin, I did not see this link in the other thread. Sounds like a must have!

They should have released this with an option to turn Yoko's vocals off. Seriously, that would have been cool. I didnt think the picture quality was anything great and I was hoping for more extras. Still worth having though.

I like it quite a bit. 5.1 sound is good, and the picture is quite good although the color is not the brightest I've seen. The Who's performance, to me, has some different camera angles than you see on The Kids Are Alright.

It does indeed.

I just wish we got more outtake material, 'tis all.

 That would be a good idea for anything she "sings on". Will "No Noise" remove her vocals?

Got it this afternoon at BB for 13.99. Had to search it out in the Music DVD section and there was no indication of it being on sale. I had seen the Sunday paper insert add though that they had it for 13.99 this week. Will be 17.99 soon ,so if you are going to get it at BB better act soon.

I really like it though. I had never seen this film previously so it was a real treat seeing it for the first time for me. The Stones set is classic and Jagger is awesome. Sound is pretty good too for as old as this is (1968) . There is also a great 20 minute or so interview with Pete Townsend reflecting on those magical performances. I also enjoyed Lennon's The Dirty Mac performance.

Were there any Stones songs performed that didn't make the official release? I though I read somewhere that they played Hi Heeled Sneakers or something similar. How does the Who portion compare with the Kids Are Alright DVD...

I believe in the CD booklet for the show that Confessin' the Blues, Route 66, and I think 2 more were performed during camera set-up and testing and were not filmed. As to if they were recorded on audio tape, I can't remember because I don't have the CD with me right now. Those with access to the CD might check to be sure.

That's the first time I've ever heard an argument FOR noise reduction on these forums!

OK, my opinions from initial viewing. New title cards inserted at the beginning that were not in the LD issue. PCM and 2.0 sound is great, but I cannot check 5.1 due to lack of a decoder. Extra Taj Mahal performances worth the price IMHO. Too bad no alternate Stones or Who takes added :shake: . A good reissue :righton: .

I was hoping the picture would offer a bit more clarity (not a huge leap over the '96 VHS) but the 5.1 mix is OK...nothing fancy but the mix is nice. I did notice plenty of healthy low end on this disc. One thing I wish were improved...it would be great to have that alternate take of "Yer Blues" mixed for 5.1 as well (or at least stereo). The mono mix is fine as presented on the disc but kind of a letdown after hearing the chosen take mixed in 5.1.

So the Yer Blues montage is Mono? I haven't watched or listened intently to it yet. What is the sound field of the 5.1 mix like? I was a little puzzled as to how a 5.1 mix could be achieved from a four track source, but I am glad the PCM stereo track was included.
