From Criterion's website:

Fritz Lang's suspense masterpiece M returns to the Collection in an all new 2-disc special edition this December. This release will feature a new transfer from fully restored film elements, as well as a host of new special features, including audio commentary by film scholars Eric Rentschler and Anton Kaes, a filmed interview with Fritz Lang conducted by director William Friedkin, Claude Chabrol's M-inspired short film M le Maudit, classroom tapes of M editor Paul Falkenberg discussing the film and its history, and much more.

I absolutely love this movie, and I'm tickled pink that it's getting the SE treatment. But jeez, this is shaping up to be one expensive fall for me!

Great news! :edthumbs:

Every fall seems to be expensive for the collector, whether it's for himself or for holiday goodies.....no matter, time to get the checkbook and plastic out yet again!

I sold my old Criterion DVD and I'm going to get this one. The old one had a pretty low-par print.

The old one had a pretty good print, actually. It was a slight improvement over the old laserdisc from Embassy, which was light years beyond the condition of most of the public-domain copies of this film.

I have no doubt that the new disc is even more spectacular, but I've enjoyed good prints of this film for a number of years now.

Watch it as a double feature with Criterion's "Testament of Dr. Mabuse" (1932). Inspector Lohmann (and a ton of other German actors) is in both of them.

Tim, the print was good compaired to public domain versions and late night PBS showings but it's no where on par with the Region 2 version and hopefully the new Criterion. The difference is quite amazing and I'm sure this prompted the want and need for an upgraded re-release.

It looks like I had an old 2-triggered response! :)

:ed: Isn't that the truth?!? I ALWAYS spend a lot more around this time of year.
However it really dies around mid-December thru mid-January.
