Remember seeing this years ago at some backwater 5-plex that usually didn't run this kind of "advanced" material. Thought of it as for some reason Klaus Nomi popped into my head. Unusual in any event as I've never owned anything of his but sincerely enjoyed the theatrics of his performance in the film. It was on vhs nearly two decades ago but haven't seen or heard a trace of it since. Any availability anywhere in the world?

Best!

Ahh.... My favorite music movie of all time!

It's way out of print, but it comes up on ebay for about $50 or so. Well worth it just for the Wall of Voodoo, Devo, Cramps, Go Go's, Klaus Nomi, and Oingo Boingo clips. I bought a T.V. with a built in VHS player just so i can watch it. What a great flick!!

I found the soundtrack CD (A&M CD 6019) a year ago for seven bucks. Was this a good thing?

I have the lp and it was one of my favorites at that time. Isn't Gary Numan on it playing "Down In The Park"?

I don't know if I have the cd version.

The CD has 21 tracks and says "this is an abridged version of the original album and cassette release." It also says it was prepared for CD release by John Guarnieri and digitally remastered by Mike Reese at A&M Studios, Hollywood, Ca.

And yes, Gary Numan's "Down In The Park" is on this.

I only know this song from the Times Square soundtrack -- anyone remember that movie?

George here showed me Urrgh, and it kinda screwed me up for quite a while. For cultural reasons, it should be in libraries across the country. I don't think anyone would understand the surfer/punk/euro movement without watching that film. There's no way to describe it either. It's a laugh-riot without trying to be.

Didn't Pere Ubu also make an appearance in the Urgh video?

Yes, anyone attempting to understand this particular period of music has to see this. They'd never get it without seeing it. I'll guess the licensing on this one would be a nightmare and the potential audience would be small. Shame as it really is an important document of that period, much like Woodstock was, granted on a smaller scale. But for those of us who lived on music other than the mainstream, such as myself, this was heaven.

Best!

Yep. In the movie, Numan is cruisin' around the stage in some sort of vehicle if memory serves me correctly. Hope this gets reissued on dvd in the near future.

Yep, saw it at the glorious Ziegfeld (sp?) Theater in NYC. I was about 17 - perfect age for this flick.

I have the LP and love it. One of the few places to find a live XTC track I believe...

Actually XTC has an entire box set of live material called "Transistor Blast". I am not sure it is still in print though. Also there are live tracks on the "Coat of many Cupboards" XTC box set.

FYI, I noticed last night that this is appearing in high definition this month at various dates/times (schedule at link below) on the INHD channel. I was lucky enough to catch it in time last night to record it. As with others, it's been years since I've seen this and I'm anxious to watch it again to see how well it holds up compared to my memories of it.

Skafish - that song he has on the soundtrack is mighty kooky, eh???

I too have caught this a couple times on INHD over the past few weeks. I think I had seen it on Night Flight when I was pretty young but didn't really appreciate it then since there would have only been about 3 or 4 bands I'd have liked at that time.

I have to admit that after watching again Klaus Nomi has piqued my curiousity a bit. His rendition of Total Eclipse is a little hard to get out of your head.

Great flick that deserves to be on DVD.

Yes, I recorded it on my Motorola AVR6208 HD DVR from iNHD, and it is still sitting there. Apparently, there is a method to record this via firewire from the HD box to a computer, and then compress 'n burn to DVD, but it will be a while before I will be able to try this.

Wim Wenders' Paris TX is also there in widescreen, also OOP.

Just watched for the first time in years - - on INHD with my 13-year-old son. He kinda dug Devo, but he just couldn't comprehend the cultural significance of the Cramp's Lux Interior writhing about in his ultra low-ride leather pants. Kids today!

Well, Lux was one of the defining moments in that flick...he did make the cover of the VHS jacket! I remember my other asking what was holding those pants up. :D We should be fortunate--my buddy who's seen a few Cramps gigs told me he has been known to get rid of the pants entirely.

And from what I've read about Jim Skafish, his performance on URGH! is either par for the course, or mild considering his other "performances". ;) Read up at http://www.skafish.com .

I agree--this one really needs to be out on DVD. I'm afraid to play mine, in case the VCR acts up. Definitely some bizarre (an enjoyable bizarre) moments on there. And the soundtrack sort of opened up the whole punk/new wave thing for me also, since I never saw the movie until it hit VHS.

I can't find this on INHD on Cox Cable in San Diego. I need to see this film again, anyone have a schedule?
