I have heard the new Ten Years After "Cricklewood Green" remaster... sounds fantastic., although Pete Mew did the remastering at Abbey Road. The remaster got 2 bonus tracks also!

BMG Germany have released Accept's backktalog... I don't know if anyone know this german Heavy Metal group... but they have recorded an amazing Metal Heart record in 85. Go to AMG (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=A2x6fmpe39f5o) and read the review. This record was remastered and got 2 live bonus tracks.

Claus,

Is that the band that does "You got your balls to the wall man!"

Yes, it is!!! Sony have released this record a couple months ago, but that should be a different remaster!!! Check the remastering credits... the new remastering edition was done by Chris Kaufmann.

Claus,

I also have the new "Cricklewood Green" remaster that Peter Mew did, and I think that he has done a wonderful job with this Ten Years After classic.

Any comparison to the MFSL release?

better... I can't understand why the most members "hate" this guy, but he did a wonderful job with this reissue.
EMI will bring the whole TYA backkatalog this year... I can't wait for Sssh, Stonedhenge and Space In Time.

Claus,

Are you sure about EMI doing the "Space In Time" remaster? I believe that CBS/Sony owns the rights to that partucular title.

Peter Mew did the Made in Japan double CD remaster. Compare this with DCC's version. On Child in Time, I'm not exactly sure where, (so it will give you all a chance to compare), there is a rattling of Roger Glover's bass strings that was magically wiped clean on the EMI remaster, not to mention the bloody cross fading that EMI did.
I like his Virgin Bowie remasters (although they probably sound goosed compared to the RCA's which I never heard). To me, the albums "needed" what was done .....Flame ON!
(The Bowie Rykos always sounded as though they had no bass or midbass and compensated with a lower and upper midrange boost. The gold Ryko CDs sounded pretty much the same IMHO.
The Jethro Tull remasters sound pretty good to me (AQUALUNG 25th IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS COMMENT), but the packaging is substandard. Some session photos and closer replication of the original issues would have been nicer (ah, but I have a copy of "The Originals")

Flame on? John, zees is KAOS, veee don't Flame here! ;)

To me, the Virgin Ziggy Stardust is horribly no-noised and the bass / trebble boosted to compensate. It is totally lifeless. The Ryko is better, but still EQ'd. If one has a bright system, one may be in pain! I have a CDR of the RCA and it is the most analogue sounding.

But my old LP beats 'em all! :)

I have to agree that the Virgin remasters are "smiling", but apart from the treble, sound OK - probably because I thought they needed the low end boost too!
I could never "get" the Rykos - I remember a review by Michael Fremer regarding these that said he was most disappointed with their sound. He rang Toby Mountain and was told in no uncertain terms to butt out. (incidentally Mikey from NYC - is he MF in a different guise?)
I liked RCA UK vinyl in the middle ages, however. Perth is a little far off the beaten track to find RCA CDs however.

With the Ryko Bowies, I always have to add a couple of dB at 50 and 100 cycles. There's still a grainy quality to the music when I compare them to the RCA CD's that I have.

Claus, just out of curiosity, have you checked to see if there's any tape hiss on the Ten Years After CD? I know that noise reduction is one reason Peter Mew is hated here.

I just picked up a copy of "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" on Castle and I think it sounds really really good. How are the rest of the Castle CDs? I'd love to hear the 1st and Paranoid for sure.

Hey Mike,

Check out the japaneese versions of Black Sabbath's albums.
Recent remasters by Techi or Victor in mini albums. I think they
sound killer! You can find them at OBIland

Paranoid on Castle sounds excellent.
The Warners issues of this album were always wonky - quite dull and unlike Vertigo UK vinyl. There was also a problem with intermittent sound in War Pigs. Don't buy older copies (ie secondhand) of the Castle Paranoid, as some of them have a very large drop out in one of the tracks - I had to return one (similar to the CBS Exile on Main Street CD with a fader being raised too late in "Sweet Virginia"). Have a look at Sleeping Village (http://users3.ev1.net/~sleeping96/sv06.htm#bs1) for some comparisons of the various Black Sabbath CD versions

I don't think Mikey from NYC is really Michael Fremer. Michael Fremer lives in New Jersey.
