I love Leno - this news is bothering me more than it should. Leno is broader than Conan - don't know how he's going to keep up Jay's ratings...
Jay is affable, funny, and has the best monologue in the business. Sure, he doesn't have that caustic wit that Letteman does, but who needs that RIGHT before you go to bed?
I like Conan more than Letterman - so at least the good guy is taking over.
JEFF!

One question, though....does Conan want to stick around for another 5 years on NBC at 12:30? Particularly if ABC offered him a spot at 11:30 next season?
We'll see.

Sorry that Conan is not taking over tomorrow. He is funny and original.
IMHO the only thing funny on the Leno show these days is Stuttering John.

Leno's okay, but I get irritated by his habit of continuing to talk while the audience is laughing at his joke. I can't hear what he's saying!

We'll see.I think the new contract binds him to stay.
Anyway, this is great news. I dislike Leno's show.
I wonder if this means Conan will be moving to L.A., and if so, is Max Weinberg willing to move with him?

I have never really been that crazy about Conan. At times he is too far over the edge for me. However, he has 5 years to improve. Talk about long-range planning!
Five years can't come soon enough imo. ;) I used to like Leno before he got the regular Tonight Show gig...
Still, Conan seems an odd choice for an 11:30 show. He's much too quirky for mainstream, so he'll have to tone down the goofier stuff methinks. I'd also bet that he was promised the gig in order to keep him at 12:30 for the next five years...
Fine with me, so long as Conan brings "The Mighty Max" with him!!

That's what people said about Letterman in 1993.

I like Conan and he deserves the promotion. I wish Andy would come back. I can't stand Leno's Tonight Show mush.

And they were right. Haven't Leno's ratings clobbered Dave's for most of the last decade?

I think Leno is terrible. Worst host out there. I can understand how he is popular because he is very bland and is watchable (for most people) from 9 to 90.

If they were throwing the amount of money that they are going to give him at you, you would hang around...believe me!

Leno was a brilliant comedian. A long time ago, in Boston, he killed.
Something happened when he did those Doritos© commercials. A soul was bought, strings attached, and he became nothing special. His ratings have been in the toilet for too long...

I'm glad to hear about this...I love Conan. I just hope NBC doesn't try to mold him into something he's not because he'll be in he primetime slot. Stay just as you are, Conan!

That's what people said about Letterman in 1993...yeah, but IIRC, Letterman did not go so far as to have a recurring character quite like "The ************ Bear".

This is great news! I only wish Conan could take over now! Hopefully, Andy has already received the phone call to come back to the show--it makes perfect sense. This news is almost enough to make the robot crack the bowl! :)

Well Dave did used to have Chris Elliot. That's pretty close, no?

Leno's ratings aren't in the toilet, though, are they? He regularly pulls a much larger audience than Letterman. Leno's humor at present is definitely watered-down, bland, and predictable. Which I guess is the key to attracting the widest audience. Conan will probably have to tone down the quirkiness and edginess of some of his stuff when he moves to 11:30, or he will risk losing viewers to Dave (or whoever is in that spot in five years).

Good point. I think Paul Reubens might be closer, tho... :p

Yes, I think Conan got ovetures to take over Kilborn's old show(and thus, Dave's show when he retires), so NBC is forking over the big bucks and(in the future)the Tonight Show to keep him there. Quite a long way away from when Conan started. NBC only gave him 13-week renewals then. Like others here, I wish Conan would start right now!
