Steve,

Could you give us a rough timeline of what it takes to remaster an LP release.

Like how long does it take to negotiate the contract, research and locate the appropriate tapes, how many test cuts, etc.

Please include any details if you have time about auditioning LPs against tapes, visiting tape vaults, that kind of stuff.

I'd be curious to know how long an average reissue takes from conception to market.

Thanks!

This is a Q that I was temped to ask Steve myself. :)

Remember the story about Dylan's Hwy 61? That DCC had to go through every tape until they were told that there were no more tapes around, except the one labeled "Do not use..."? DCC said "That's it!" It was sent to them and THAT tape really was the original tape. The full label was "Do not use for LP cutting". It took like *6 months* to just get the tape.

Did I remember that story right, Steve?

And I'd guess that a 'bad' master tape would be harder and take longer than a 'good' master tape to do, so his answer might be "From 1 month to 8 months, depending on what has to be done.... "

But what do I know....??? *shrug*
