how one can tell original (first) and later pressings for various labels.

Are there any webpages that would describe the originals, maybe with label pictures and the most coveted scrawlings in the dead wax?:)

TIA

Better get the Goldmine price guide. There is a section at the beginning that details the various labels used by the various, uh, labels. :rolleyes:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0873493168/qid=1012298282/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_74_1/103-3645134-5532647

(hope that link works)

I did find a WWW resource that may be of interest for vinyl lovers here:). It is a Russian site that has lots of label and cover pictures organized by artist (http://www.collectable-records.ru/groups/index.htm). Many are incomplete, and not surprisingly, preference is given to artists that were popular in the 70s and 80s in a country that is no more.

It also has a whole bunch of label pictures (http://www.collectable-records.ru/labels/index.htm). I'm not sure these are consecutive by year though.

You do not really have to read Russian to use these sections of the site.

Thanks SVL - Cool site! I wish I could afford a scanner big enough to copy entire gatefold LP covers.

Just thought I would bring this thread back to share a few vinyl links that may be of interest:

http://www.recordmaster.com/search.cfm?new=n

A large searchable database of various vinyl pressings (CDs too), with some value estimates;

http://www.helsinki.fi/~tuschano/records/

lots of links to new and second-hand online vinyl stores.
