View Full Version : Just watched the "Front Lines" Walt Disney Treasures DVD, and...

Which, incidentally, was the same thing my mother, father and wife said (we watched it together).

We didn't really know what to expect. When the Donald shorts showed up, we laughed until we cried... but then, suddenly, the whole thing turned so dark, intense, moody and terrifying we had to stop watching it. The cartoons (I think those that were comissioned by the Canada government) where a Nazi war machine hovered over a city, with a dark, menacing presence as terrifying as the one of the demon in Fantasia, which was destroyed and later appeared as a dead soldier, is, IMHO, as powerful as any image I've ever seen anywhere else. Not to mention the stereotyping, the aggression, the violence...

The interesting thing is that, from visiting various museums and reading books, I could get some sort of idea of what WWII was like. From visiting places like the Pampanito in San Francisco, I understood what kind of hell war was like. Now, with the WD Treasure disc, I can understand how people saw the war effort. And it's chilling.

It sure made an impression on me. I'm not really sure whether it's a good one or a bad one, but there you go...
