Is it noticably better than the HDCD CD remaster that came out a while back?

I have it but I don't have any of the Doors HDCD releases to compare it to. I listened to the DVD-A in stereo only for a few days until I completed my 5.1 set-up. I think it sounds great.

I believe the 2-channel or 2-channel hi-rez mixes on DVD-A are the unheralded bonus of this format.

Right on Dan!

The difference between the hi-rez DVD-A and the HDCD are night and day. There is no comparison.

But, how does it stack up against the DCC (Steve's) version?

This is the reason why I haven't bought into one of the new hi-rez formats. All the industry magazines talk about is the surround sound features. Comparing a 5.1 DVD-Audio to a Stereo CD is apples for oranges.

I don't think the 2 channel hi-rez mix is the bonus... I think the 5.1 mix is the bonus. I won't buy a DVD-Audio without the Hi-Res Stereo.

LA Woman was one of the first DVD-A's I purchased. The first time I went to play it, I was attempting to experience the 5.1 mix, but the DVD-A started in the Hi-Rez Stereo mode. The audio was STUNNING!!! It sounded so good that I had to step back and appreciate my speakers...

I listened to a lot of it in stereo before I changed to the 5.1 mix. It was that good. As someone who is old enough to remember buying the LP when it came out, I felt like I was hearing things (in stereo) that I never percieved before.

Although I have the DCC Gold CD, I have not A/B'd them...
