I saw this movie featuring Marlee Maitlan the other day. It was very interesting to say the least. Being the spiritualist that I am, I found this movie very enjoyable, but I think I'm in the minority.

There was one very interesting point made in this movie which I'd like to discuss.

Apparently, when Columbus was getting ready to land in the West Indies, some people did not see his ships coming into the horizon. The thought behind this was that since the natives had never seen ships like this, they did not exist for them. This seems very hard to fathom. A woman, Jennifer, that I went with, immediately mentioned that she thought this was BS. I must admit it seems a bit far fetched to me as well, but then I started to think.

This seems very similar to what occurs to me all the time with music and audio. I often hear things that other people do not. Many of these things seem just as obvious to me as seeing Columbus's ships would have seemed to be. Yet people don't hear these things, and I'd say it's possibly for the same reason the natives didn't notice the ships, if of course, you can believe that they actually didn't notice them.

Simple concepts like phantom center channel, out of phase conditions, 3 dimensionality, and the like which are likely very familiar to most of us here, are not always familiar to others. I've had trouble demonstrating some of these concepts before, and was totally baffled that something which seems so obvious to me, would be 'invisible' to others.

I mentioned this to Jennifer and she is just as opposed to this concept that I can clearly hear something that she might not as she is to the visual example with the ships. She is now eager for me to demonstrate this for her. I will attempt to do so when she gets back from her vacation.
