I was gonna guess BOC as well, although I seem to remember them using it before 1977. They were the local heavy-metal heroes here on LI during the mid-70s.

...who often performed at smaller venues under the name "Soft White Underbelly"

And I KNOW Jimbo already knew that!

No, sorry no-one yet, although one half of the question was. The correct year is there.

I really can't give any hints as it would just be too easy.

So, was it a question after all, or just a statement?!

WHO was the first band to use laser lights.

That's like: How Long was a China man? ;)

Yes , being as I saw both McCartney use them on the Wings Over America tour in 1976 and ELO use them before that.

Macca talks about using lasers on the '76 Wings Over America Tour in the Wingspan show.

Besides McCartney's Wings Over America shows in 1976, Zeppelin used them on their 1975 "Physical Graffiti" tour.

Dave...do you have any more trivia questions. I find this rather fun Thanks for coming up with these tidbits of R'N'R knowledge...

Well you guys can say ELO, Zeppelin, McCartney all you want. I remember reading in some audio magazine of yersteryear that Rush was the not only the first, but helped perfect the use, and the announcement at the show stated such. Wish I had some sort of press release to show you all.

Your source is wrong, Dave. I was at a Zep concert in '75 that featured laser effects. See the movie The Song Remains The Same for a scene that shows the effect - it was a column of laser light that enveloped Jimmy Page as he soloed.

Sorry. No matter how much you insist, you're still wrong. 1977 was not a first for laser lighting effects.

Dave,
I saw the Who in 1975 with full laser show in London England. Keith Moon recommended that the audience stare into the lights.

Well I could have the year wrong, but I don't recall lasers being used in the Fly By Night tour or the Caress Of Steel tour. It happens when you get old.:D
