Anyone notice that Best Buy is charging $1 more than what most other stores are charging for some recently released DVDs? For example, Passion Of The *** is 15.99, but 14.99 elsewhere, and that new Futurama is oddly priced at $40.99 rather than 39.99 like at other stores.

Best Buy isn't always the lowest priced but they will match any legit advertised price. I just go the new Rocky and Bullwinkle set which they were selling for $29.99. I took in Target's flyer and got the set for $24.99 which was the Target price.

Futurama was $32.99 at my local Best Buy; Tower wanted $46!

Me, too! They give no hassle with price matching! :goodie:

"What's with the swipe at PASSION, friend?"

The title "The Passion Of The ***" is a South Park DVD, not ubsman's comment on the Mel Gibson film (I almost said Mel Brooks!). I almost laughed out loud in the store when I saw that DVD.

Well shut my mouth! I may have to check that out...the South Park Movie is one of my (very) guilty pleasures. Haven't seen the TV show since we cancelled our cable. Thanks for the clarification.

The South Park: The Passion Of The *** disc is a parody. Stan goes to see the film, and is mortified by the violence, while Kyle and Kenny are disappointed with it and track down Mel Gibson to get their money back, Cartman turns in to a megalomanic, etc.

I didn't like this much at all the first time I saw it. Then we watched the DVD with my father-in-law with the subtitles (he needed these on everything). Hee-larious!

Mmm. That "***" comment is not kosher. Certainly even I view that as hostile. Let's not be backhanded here to fellow members and keep on subject. TYVM.

Sorry, but the PASSION thing is tasteless. Try to use another example next time. Thanks.

As we've mentioned, he was referring to the South Park DVD The Passion Of The ***, that we were talking about later in the thread. Best Buy has that particular title on sale this week, along with the Gibson film. I'm sure no backhanded comment was intended.

Best Buy features it prominently in their weekly circular, why can't we discuss the title here?

But it's a legitimate title of a dvd. See above.

Although the South Park film referenced in this thread is a legitimate release we have received a number of complaints. As such, all references to the term in the title of this DVD have been removed. Please refrain from discussion of this film in this thread going forward. The subject matter of this thread is fine. Please carry on.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Bob :)

I wonder if those who complained know that one of the co-creators of the The Passion of the *** is a *** himself?

I never thought South Park would be off limits.

I know. It seems innocently jovial, but the good intentions in the title have made some people uncomfortable. People have (if you remember) had VERY strong opinion of the film, and the terminology of this South Park title was MADE to somewhat offend.

Heck, it's hard being Gorty, you see.

So I can understand both sides. In this case, it's best to be kind and accommodate, move on, love life, have a sandwich.

It actually looks slightly obscene with the asterisks instead of the word. Kinda like what happened to "Frankenstein" (1931) when they cut out the monster throwing the girl in the water and instead jumped from the monster reaching for her to a scene where her father was carrying her drowned body.

My first thought was to question what word went in the 3 letter asterick. I thought it was the 3 letter word for behind. Obviously that didnt make any sense though.

Wow, looks like I stired up some **** here! I was only talking about pricing, not dvd titles, but those are the two I noticed at the store when I went in to purchase a SACD.

The "extra buck" thing is not a conspiracy. The pricing is actually different by city/region. It's part of a test that Best Buy is doing on demand elasticity. And besides, Best Buy is not obligated (and neither is any other store) to be at the lowest price for any item at any time. What's the big deal? If you don't like Best Buy, shop elsewhere - it's a free country.

The test is working pretty good from the line I saw there on Sunday. I am not about to drive across town to Circuit City or even next door to Target to save a $1.00. I'm getting to the point where I would pay you a $1.00 to wait in line at Best Buy for me.

Yeah, that was my thought too - "The Passion of the A**". I thought that was some satirical slam on the Gibson movie, not a coverup for the "South Park" title.

Honestly, I don't get why it's off-limits to mention the title of a DVD like this...

As Bob said: because it made some members uncomfortable, and resulted in some complaints. :)

If nothing else, it made me go out and purchase The Passion of the ***. I didn't know about it before this thread and I love South Park (and I'm ***ish).

I have a theory that I have been successful at lately:
Why buy a new DVD release in the first few months of release? Within a short period, they need to blow them out in Best Buy's "2 for $20.00" sales; case in point: Master in Commander in this week's ad. I just got tired of buying the new release at the low price in the first week, then by the time I had an evening to watch it; it's on the above sale. If you wait longer, it's "3 for 20.00"; better yet, because the studio was in such a rush, you can wait for the "deluxe" edition with a second disc; which should have been done right at the beginning.
