Yes! I agree! Now all we need is one for the 70s!
you know, Dave DID post a thread about the top ten from May 1986 but only got three or four responses. I thought there were more 80s fans here. Hmmmm...

Yeah, one of my favorite lines as a kid...
"O-o-oh sa-a-y can you se-e-e-e
My eyes, if you can--
Then my hair's too short"
:)
I'll swear-- I used the risk the wrath of the principal by wearing my hair long (and got kicked out of Boy Scouts for it!!), so that kids could wear their hair as long as they wanted...
...and what do they go and do? Buzzcuts. :D
Some of them make Bill Cullen and Garry Moore look like longhairs!!

The first post has a great site but whoever put it together needs to do some checking of the correct song titles.
Ah.....the 60's. What an amazing decade for music. IMO the greatest ever.

The 60's, an amazing amount of creativity, diversity. A Renaissance, never in our lifetime will we see again. It was wonderful being there first hand. WOW!
Michael,
Being there first hand? I agree with you whole-heartedly. What a great time. No other like it.

OK, What were you smoking? Dropping, LOL!!!!
What a super time to be alive! Welfare was almost unheard of because everyone had good paying jobs, thievery was almost unheard of for the same reason, and most of all the music was incredible! Man, how I miss those much simpler times!;)

Most Mom's STAYED home and took care of their children while Dad went to work. Everything (Almost) was a at reasonable price: Records, Food, Shelter, Automobiles, Clothes, Penny Candy (My favorite) For a Dollar you were able to buy 20 Hershey Bars! Penny Candy was a Penny! Man I'm in the mood for a Sour Grape Gum-ball and some String licorice chased by a 6 Pack Of Mini Wax Bottles. Capping my full day of playing my Little AM Radio under my pillow listening to the Beatles sing "I want To Hold Your hand"! Good-Night! Then Having the next 10+ years full of the GREATEST MUSIC ever! :)

Grant,
No question that beginning in November of 63' the decade was filled with growing social and political unrest...changes that have left an undeniable stamp on our country--socially, politically and economically. Musically, it was a literal gem because of the vast changes that evolved. Inspite of the social and political unrest, the music from the 60's remains inspiring, passionate and spirited.

You hit the nail on the head, Michael! A Renaissance!
And Grant, lighten up will ya? Why bring reality into this? ;) Most of us were just kids, not needing a job to survive, still retaining our joy at being alive, having lots of friends, wild times and taking risks with our first hot-rod - uhhh, car .... because we *knew* we'd live forever and - perhaps most importantly - digital work stations did not exist and Peter Mew was still a tape operator at Abbey Road! :D

Minus Vietnam it still is alot worse today.
Simpler times, YES! Where a man could easily afford to supprt a family, where taxes were half of what they are now (at least here anyways). Where you could buy a brand new car for $3,000.00, and I do mean a brand new Mustang, while making about $7.00 p/h. Much simpler times, a definate YES! ;)

Hey everybody,
The 70s were no slouch either! Neil Young, Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Bowie, Springsteen, Earth Wind & Fire, Al Green, Zeppelin, etc. etc.
And don't forget--GASP--disco! No kidding: My Rhino "Dance Floor Divas" CD is one of my favorite listens.

Jason,
I love 70's music as well, however, since this thread is about the 60's.......

Dave is from Canada and so they were simpler times for him as his country wasn't involved in the Vietnam war, their cities wern't in flames from riots, no political leaders were assassinated, I think American Women by the Guess Who summed up our friends to the north's feelings although I can't speak for them. Canada seems to have less crime in general and good social programs though my Canadian neighbors like the job opprotunities and lower taxes in Minnesota. sorry for ranting I know this has little to do with 60's music

clayton,
And taxes in Minnesota and Wisconsin are some of the highest in the US....
Since I was between the ages of 9 and 18 in the 60's, I can firmly say that 60's were not ALL about Vietnam, assassinations, civil rights protests, strife and social change. In fact, before November 22, 1963 the 60's were very similar to the late 50's.
No question, however, that all of the events of the 60's shaped our lives and the music in a fast paced, highly changeable manner.
