Has anyone picked up the first season of The Munsters yet? I almost did, but wanted to wait to see if there were any problems first.

Favorite episode: when Herman tries out for the Dodgers. Second favorite: when the Standells appear.

Is the Herman Superstar episode on it, the one where he sings the Bone song into Eddie's friend's tape recorder?

No, that's in the Second Season...Episode #50. Will Success Spoil Herman Munster?..absolutely hilarious!!!

CitizenDan-- my sentiments precisely! Herman knocking over the scoreboard, and his train whistle in the Standells episode still make me giggle.

I picked it up yesterday and watched most of side 1, disc 1 last night. Overall it looks great. The picture is exceedingly sharp and uniformly crisp with practically no dirt or scratches to be seen. The only quibble I have is that every once in a while, some scenes are a bit darker than they should be. The blacks are REALLY black, resulting in a bit of detail loss. The audio is spectacular! The DD mono soundtrack rocks. Dialog is easy to hear and sound effects and music cues really pop. In short, The Munsters has NEVER looked or sounded better. Fans will be thrilled. All others will be pleasantly surprised by the splendid transfers.

As noted, the set does not provide much in the way of extras (although it does include a whopping 38 first-season episodes!) excepting the 15-minute color pilot. This extra is an interesting one, though. Honestly, after seeing the pilot, I am not sure the show would have been a hit if it gone on the air in color. Picture Young Frankenstein in color, and you'll get the idea. Of course, back in 1964, the proliferation of homes with color TV's was not that great, so most folks would have seen it in black & white, anyway. But, seeing this show in color is jarring, and not in a good way, IMO.

Do the episodes end with the Kayro-Vue/Universal City emblem?

...did anyone get a copy of the cancelled The Munsters, America's First Family Of Fright DVD? I'll buy it from you or trade some DCC GOLD goodies for it...:)

Hmmm... I skipped back to the main menu each time before all of the credits completed. I will check this tonight.

Did this make it into the retail stream at all? I thought I read that only a handful of review copies were distributed before Image canceled it. I believe there is a review up at DVDTalk.

Is the episode where Herman gets fired from the funeral parlor and goes through 6 jobs in 5 days included in this first season?

It's one of my favorites.

I picked the set up on Tuesday. Love it!! One of my two favorite episodes is in this season, 'Far Out Munsters' with The Standells in it. The other being the episode with Zombo in the second season.

I have one 'problem' with it. In the episode 'Sleeping Cutie', when the 'Prince' kissed a sleeping Marilyn, wasn't the underlying music, 'Someday My Prince Will Come'? I believe you hear it again when he comes to the door later. I have a very strong memory of this from seeing since they first aired, not to mention countless times since, and it seems to have been replaced with some other music.

Is it just me or did anyone else notice this? :)

Well, it wouldn't surprise me. DVD manufacturers pull this type of stunt quite frequently. Used to be, back in the LD days, it would state on the packaging "some music re-scored". I guess dishonesty / profit maximization is the way to go nowadays. Thanks for the info. I won't be buying this set now.

I just want to make sure that my memory serves me correctly. I believe that was the underlying music for those scenes. I just want to know if my memory is correct in that and does anyone know why it was changed.

Here's the link (http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=11365) to the DVDTalk review I mentioned. I hope this shows up in some form down the road. It sounds great!
