Does anyone have experience with (first hand) , or opinions of (any hand), modded cdp's? Since I'll be keeping my AH! for a while, I was considering having Modwright do some stuff to it.

yes i had my Cd player modded and it was the best thing i ever did. more detail retrieval, smoother presentation and bigger soundstage. my CD player is a a Rotel RCD 975 which was always a little bright compared to my turntable and in fact my turntable killed my CD player. after the changes however i can honestly say that my Cd player is much closer to my turntable that harshness has gone. the turntable just beats it but only by a short head.

the changes were a new clock, seperate power supply for the clock, new op amps (high speed "soft recovery diodes" i think they are called), and a new power cord. the guy i dealt with is in south africa he also offers tube output buffer (which may be my next move) and triordal power supplies (which my Cd player already had). if you e-mail him he may be able to send you plans and parts if you are handy his e-mail

if you are wanting to improve your Cd player and take it to the next level i cannot recommend it highly enough

I know a place that replaces a CDP's output stage. They simply upgrade the stage with high quality transformers (Lundal, I believe). Costs about $300.00 Canadian. Of course that includes their profit.... so who knows what the true cost is?

If there is not enough room in the CDP for the new output stage, it becomes an external output stage.

They are now looking into upgrading an SACD player's output.

The results are impressive!
