I'm on a tight budget and already have the original CD. Has anyone gotten the recent remaster and compared it to the old CD? Does the new remaster get closer to the sound of the original lp, or is this another case of "the original CD is better with a bit of EQ"?

I recently purchased the new remaster on the advice of my audiophile brother and I must say the sound is incredible. Now to be honest, I never heard the original cd release but I can't imagine it being any better than the new remaster- highly recommended.

I have the original and I was thinking of getting it again. They threw in a few bonus tracks one of my favorites "Foggy Mt. Breakdown".Here we go again more money for a song!

According to an article I read, the original CD of this set was mastered using a 15ips copy of the 30ips safety master, so that's two generations down from the original, and it was done without any input from the NGDB.
The new version was done using the original master tape (the lp was recorded direct to 2-track without any post-mixing) and was overseen by at least one band member. I wouldn't be surprised if it sounded a lot better.

Thanks John!
Looks like I'm going to have to lay down the long green. Where was that article you mentioned?
