Probably because QT felt like it....:D

That's the best explanation one can come up with for any unusual bit of business in a story...guy or gal gets a notion, then they implement it....kinda like the questions unresolved in PULP FICTION, never occurs to some fans that there doesn't have to be an answer or explanation. Sometimes, it's just thrown in, like adding a piece of furniture to a room that seems gaudy and out of place, except to the owner, who for whatever reason loves it.

And even if there were a logical explanation, so what? The story works with or without that nuance, but he just decided to wait....

Of course, with that overseas edit or eventual SE, who knows what we'll find out, and what will be changed?

i didnt say the story didnt work, i am just wondering WHY? no need to explain why a director does things or doesnt, i was asking a specific question and hoped someone here might know the answer. no biggie.

Why keep it a secret? It makes her more mysterious without a name. Of course, when we find out her name, it's little more than a gag - nothing revealing other than that it'd been revealed all along, to a degree - but it adds to the character's mystique...

A lot of kung fu flicks have nameless protagonists. He's paying homage to that.

Not to mention Spaghetti Westerns, etc.

Also maybe to toy with us. I bet a lot of people assumed that since it was kept secret it was something really special or amazing or cool or relevant to the plot and it turned out to just be a regular name.

but they actually do say her name throughout both movies.

Which is why I said "it's little more than a gag - nothing revealing other than that it'd been revealed all along, to a degree"...

nice replies guys, those helped, and it is so true not only about whats in the briefcase in PF but also KB. it makes you want to go back and watch it again which i did last night and after watching the first time (vol 2) and finding out what her name was, it was amazing how bill said her last name at least 3 or 4 times but you never knew because "kiddo" could have been just a nick he gave her. tarantino is a master.

I heard this from Quentin himself.....originally, William Shatner was supposed to say her name in the beginning of KB2. They actually shot Shatner's parts before any other scene, but Quentin was denied the rights to use the actor, thus the confusion. Don't worry, though. When Quentin joins up with George Lucas, they will make a "Special Voodoo Daddy Yoda Spanky Edition" that will include the new footage of Shatner saying Kiddo's name while singing showtunes.

Or not.
:D :D :D
