I loved the original Exorcist (one of my favorite horror films) and was thinking of checking out "The Beginning". The trailer for it looks OK, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

not me...I'll let more adventurous deep pocketed filmgoers test the water with this one.

Probably not a bad idea...

This is the one that was directed by Paul Schraeder, shelved and then re-done by Renny Harlin, right? I think I read that both would be released on DVD. Based on past films, I would probably enjoy Schraeder's more.

Renny Harlin directed one of my favorite cheeseball movies, Deep Blue Sea, but I wonder how he did with The Exorcist material.

Hey John, you talkin' to me?? I don't see anybody else here, so you must be talkin' to me!! :D

I'll probably see it tomorrow afternoon. No, really. Even though it looks awful, I can't NOT see it. :shake:

That's the way I understand it from watching the E! True Hollywood Story of "The Exorcist". I didn't find this fact reassuring for the prequel. And what kind of name is Morgan Creek for a film company? Sounds like they should be selling bottled water instead. :p

The only movie I ever really liked by Renny Harlin was "Cliffhanger".

Wasn't "Cuthroat Island" by Harlin considered one of the worst bombs in movie history? This one looks like it will compete.

Just say no to Exorcist sequels.
"Exorcist 2: The Heretic" is AMAZINGLY bad. But it's at least bad in a very entertaining way. Cuthroat is just bad. Renny also made the Andrew Dice Clay movie "Ford Fairlane" which makes Cuthroat look like "Citizen Kane."

Here's a "No" vote (to put it mildly) from CNN.com. Check out the last paragraph--ouch!

I agree that the original was very good (my favorite line: "Why don't you come out and we can see who is the strongest.")

The first Exorcist is a timeless horror classic. Its beyond me why they keep trying to make these sequels that will never hold up to a very unique movie.

OK, I admit I went to see it tonight after work. Bad, bad, BAD. Really, it gives Exorcist II a run for its money. The audience was roaring with laughter, when they weren't bored to tears. Nothing remotely scary, except for the script and direction. Given enough time, this has the potential to be a classic of bad cinema.

It shouldn't be all that amazing. America is at it's core a puritanical based society that believes in not only god, but also the devil. That society has a fascination with god so they are bound to have it with the devil also. Of course this is a movie and they are shilling to make a buck so technically Hollywood has a fascination with making a buck which they have proved time and time again with the dreck they put out.
