For a change of evening pace I've been reading Dan Jenkins' Rude Behavior (a sequel to Semi Tough from several years back) - I've been trying to get hardcovers of DJ's books off and on the last several years (Ebay is great for this - my 1st edition cost $2.95 - the postage was $4). Anybody in the midst of a good read right now???

I just finished To Say Nothing Of The Dog by Connie Willis. A funny time-travel/mystery book. Recommended!
And also The Paper Grail by Jame Blaylock. A quirky modern fantasy story. Also recommended!
I'm anxiously awaiting Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson to come out in paperback. His Cryptonomicon was my favorite book from the last couple of years.

Huge PK Dick fan-a couple of years ago, I re-bought all of his work (well, almost all) and started re-reading them, but never made it all the way through.
I just finished "So you want to be a Rock & Roll Star" by Jacob Slichter, the drummer for Semisonic. Hilarious diary of getting signed to a major label (MCA), dealing with A&R guys, radio stations, etc. Highly recommended to anyone interested in the music biz or whoever thought of what it would be like if their band became semi-famous.

Dreamgirl/Supreme Faith- Mary Wilson
I was amazed on how in depth she went out about the whole Motown opweration. This is a great read. I'm up to Florence Ballard getting kicked out which is pretty dramatic.

I finished reading 'La Tregua' ('The Truce') by Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti for the second time, just a couple days back. I started Las Armas Secretas by Julio Cortázar just yesterday (I might've read it already  ).
Has any of you here read any of these two authors?

I just finished David Leaf's The Beach Boys - The California Myth. It covers their history up to the late 70's. Excellent read.

I just started "Skinny Dip" this weekend. Carl Hiaasen never disappoints and this book is no exception. Sure his stuff is pretty formulaic, but I love it! Have you read his non fiction? Life in South Florida is even funnier and more bizarre than anything he could make up. I highly recommend it.

Working my way through the Maigret books (in translation) by Georges Simenon. I used to read a lot of mysteries, but ran out of authors I liked (Simenon is excellent).
The last three books I read that were really great were:
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

I'm reading the book "Anti-Rock: The Opposition to Rock & Roll". I'm on the part about how Jessie Jackson tried to start an organization to rid the airwaves of "sex-rock" in the late 70s.
I am kind of shocked that in 1976, radio banned "Disco Lady" because they thought it was too suggestive! I must have been lucky to have lived in an area of the country where songs weren't banned.

Just finished Mystic River by Dennis Lehane. If you like the movie, you will love the book, and if you didn't really like the movie, you'll appreciate the book for taking the time to fill in the blanks left out of the movie.

I certainly remember Jackson getting all worked up over the Stones' "Some Girls." Nary a peep out of him on the disgusting, misogynistic and hateful lyrics some hardcore rap groups spew out.

How is that SRV book? Is it new?
I am reading Dan Brown's Digital Fortress. The Davinci Code and Angels and Demons were freaking awesome, and this book is starting to pick up the pace.
