Now that we've hashed out the film version, is it better or worse than the many, many other iterations of this well-thwomped story?

Ok all- I'll Start!
The only two versions I've had the opportunity to listen to are the 1972 and 1975 releases. I vividly remember Elton John's cover of Tommy, and also vividly remember hearing Merry Clayton doing the Acid Queen, Ringo singing of wicked Uncle Ernie in Fiddle About, and of course Rod Stewart's version of Tommy.
I was 15 when the London Symphony version came out, and the mix of orchestra and Rock boggled my mind. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have a fairly nice copy of the US Ode LP with the slipcase, and was able to grab a US domestic CD release of it back in the 80's.
The 1972 release will always have a place in my heart.

even though it is a bad film...it still holds a place close to my heart. I love the end of "Tommy the Movie" as Daltrey climbs up that hill and he looks as good as he ever did.
For Who fans there's plenty to enjoy....how about Keith Moon's parts. The version of "I'm Free" from the soundtrack is my favorite version of that song.

The tepid 1989 reunion concert just made me sad, so I picked that one.

Was the Lou Reizner's 1972 London stage musical the one that looked like a $5 ballet? If it was, that's the one that sucked.
The The Who's 1989 concert was justified as soon as Pete did "Face The Face". Wish I was there.

I went with that one also as I found it very embarrassing - Billy Idol and Phil Collins

Yes, but while I give the 89 concert "hurls in stereo"
:hurl: :hurlleft:
There isn't enough time in a day for me to cut and paste enough "hurls" to express my opinion of the Ken Russel film!

I haven't seen all of these versions but the Ken Russell's film was so abysmal I can't imagine anything worse.

It's a toss up between the Ken Russell film and the 1989 Live Show...both are putrid! What were they thinking?
