I received my copy of this wonderful collection a couple of weeks ago.
My only gripe is some strange track selections towards the end of CD 2. I think most of us could pick 3 or 4 better later period BB tracks that could've been included. I guess Kokomo was included from a marketing perspective.
Listening to Disney Girls, which sound SO good on this collection, makes me yearn for a Hoffman "Surfs Up" (the whole album).
Peter,
Isn't it amazing how Steve does the Boys vocals. I never get tired of my Endless Summer and Spirit.:)
Yeah, "Surf's Up" and "Til I Die" would have been great to hear. I would've liked to see "Kiss Me Baby," too.

Well, a "non-Beach Boy" person compiled it. I think he did the best he could. At least he agreed that the CORRECT versions of some of the songs be on there.
I know that Steve got him to put "Little Saint Nick" on there; still the ONLY CD out there that has the correct original stereo mix of the song!

For some reason, Kiss Me Baby is not on many of the Beach Boys compilation discs. I think that the chorus of Kiss Me Baby is very ingenious with Mike Love singing very quietly, “kiss a little bit, fight a little bit, kiss a little bit, fight a little bit,……..” The Beach Boys “Today” album was a real turning point in their song writing. The songs on side 1 were similar to the songs on their previous albums, while the songs on side two were based upon more mature subjects. For example:
“Please Let Me Wonder”:
“I built all my goals around you
That some day my love would surround you
You'll never know what we've been through
For so long I thought about it
And now I just can't live without it
This beautiful image I have of you
Baby
Please let me wonder
If I've been the one you love
Please let me wonder
If I'm who you're dreaming of
Please let me wonder, love”
“I’m So Young”:
“I have a girlfriend
She says I'm her only one
We wanna get married
But we're so young
So young….
Pretty soon now
I'll go to sea
Their mother's baby
Will have seen the last of me
So young
Can't marry no one, no one”
“She Knows Me So Well”:
I get so jealous of the other guy
And then I'm not happy til I make her break down and cry
When I look at other girls it must kill her inside
But it'd be another story if she looked at the guys
But she knows me
She knows me too well
Knows me so well
That she can tell
I really love her
She knows me too well
YIKES, YIKES, YIKES!!!!….These songs are a far cry from Little Duce Coupe!!!!!

Well, yeah, Kokomo and Rock and Roll Music were the BB's biggest non-60s hits (wasn't Kokomo their biggest-selling single of all time?) so they kinda have to be included, despite their dubious artistic merits.
