I'm heading to Minnesota next week and was hoping I might be able to pick up some vinyl. Can anyone recommend good spots to check for new and/or old records?
    Thanks for any pointers!

Let It Be Records is by far the best place to shop for records these days.

    Edit:
    Here's their address/phone number/hours:

    1001 Nicollet Mall
    Minneapolis, MN 55403

    Phone: 612.339.7439

Or visit them on the web at:

Jason: hers'a a few to try all within a mile or two of each other, south of Downtown, these stores all had a good selection of vinyl back when I used to buy LP's, so I don't know if their selection is what it used to be but anyway here's a few
    LET IT BE RECORDS
    10001 Nicollet Mall
    612-339-7439

    OARFOLKJOKEOPUS VINTAGE RECORDS
    2557 Lyndale ave so..
    612-872-7400

    GARAGE D'OR RECORDS
    3015 Lyndale ave so.
    612-824-3986

and while your at it if you want a good cup of coffee from a non chain coffeehouse
try Bob's Java Hut on 26th and Lyndale

    Hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure Garage D'or doesn't exist anymore and Oarfolkjokeopus is now a different record store called Treehouse Records.

Xyzzy is correct on both counts. Treehouse still has lots of good stuff, though. Still at 26th and Lyndale.

Also check out Roadrunner at 43rd and Nicollet, Root Cellar on Snelling in St. Paul, and Hymie's on Lake Street in Minneapolis.

Thanks everybody. All those stores should keep me busy!
    Just one question:

    Are they only open Monday-Friday?
    Thanks again!

I'm 99 percent positive it's open on Saturdays; you might call to make sure.

And Fetus does have a decent selection of new vinyl, as well.

If you're into new vinyl, give the Cheapo locations on Lake St. and Snelling Ave. a shot (I'm not sure if the other two locations even stock vinyl):

Their prices aren't always great (despite the name), but they have a better selection of new vinyl than Electric Fetus. The Fetus' CD selection is far better, though. Anyway, I second the nominations for Let It Be and Root Cellar... haven't been to the other places mentioned.

If you can't make it to Root Cellar Records in St. Paul,
you can always buy from them on eBay under the selling
I.D. name of "Rooty" where they have thousands of
    listings on vinyl, CD, etc.
