Well that does it: It's DVD-A for me! But maybe only 2 channel for now... I am a big Neil fan! :D

Now the only thing that'll screw me up is if DCC decides NOT to support DVD-A!

That appears to be the exact same article that appeared in Sound and Vision ages ago.

First of all you have to realize that Neil Young is signed to a Warner affiliated label, and Warner Bros. is the only major label at this time releaseing DVD-Audio.

If my memory serves, before that article was printed, Neil has openly come out and stated that he loved SACD - and was hoping to release his music on that format. But since, as stated above, Neil is on Reprise (a Warner Bros. label) he naturally has to support DVD-Audio.

Secondly, I really doubt that Warners would allow Neil, no matter how much he might say so, to release any DVD-Audio in stereo only. It really appears to me, at least, that Warners is pushing the 5.1 aspect of DVD-Audio and would probably never release a title only with a stereo track.

These are only my educated guesses, but I would welcome all of Neil's music on a hi-rez format, and I also await the re-release of many of his classics on his Vapor Vinyl imprint.

Mr. Young has been very vocal for a long time about his low opinion concerning the 16 bit CD. Yet he has for years played his concerts at record high levels so it is doubtful that he can hear much of anything any longer. Although not every CD sounds good, (an understatement), some sound very fine to my ears, including seveal of his CD releases. He was not asked to express his opinon on SACD as part of that interview. Does not say much for the person conducting the interview. I expect it was a packaged publicity piece staged by the DVD-A camp and merely published to give the appearance that it was an objective interview. The editorial quality of the audio-video rags have fallen to a very low level over the years.

I seriously wonder if Neil's hearing is what it used to be in the "60's. His first HDCD release Mirror Ball was a messy blob of sound that probably couldn't be saved by Steve himself. That interview (which is not dated) is probably 2 years old.

If Neil is so concerned about poor CD sound why does he not release his stuff on vinyl or better yet let Steve release his catalogue on both analog and digital.

The "poor" quality of CD has certainly not stopped him from churning out lots of CD
"product".

Signed,
A frustrated Neil Young fan:mad:

Just to expand on this, according to ICE magazine this month, the upcoming DVD-A of Harvest will include a DVD-A 5.1 remix and the original stereo mix mastered in DVD-A. I look forward more to the latter than the former, as the surround mix is described as 'putting you in the middle with the instruments all around you'. Ugh.

(Btw, count me among those whoa re skeptical that Neil Young can hear *much of anything* above 12K at this point in his life, given the live volumes he's accustomed to playing at.)

Almost unrelated (you either see the connection or not):

My favorite moment in the Osbourne TV show documents a dinner at a restaurant with the family, some friends, musicians, management - et al. Ozzy is in the middle of telling a story, when his daughter (who is seated next to him) tries to get his attention. Ozzy rambles on without even regarding his daughter, who becomes quite pissed off at being ignored.

Daughter : DAD! YOU NEVER LISTEN TO ME!!!
Ozzy: I've been 40 years in front of 100,000 decibles! Write me a *****ing note!

Why should we trust the hearing of rock stars?

I belive that all of his stuff is on vinyl. His last 5 or 6 lp's have 2 records in a single slip cover. I find most of them sounding great.
