James Carr on Razor & Tie

I see you did the Razor & Tie James Carr collection. I also have an LP compilation which says it was made from vinyl sources "as the masters were unavailable" and a Goldwax reissue of the "Got My Mind Messed Up" LP. The reissue LP has "issues" on a couple of cuts, a really weird repetitive sound that sounds like some sort of digital damage. The tracks that sound good, sound very good indeed.

What's the story on these masters? Did you have masters to work from, or safeties, or what? I will check the LP and let you know which cuts had the problems on the Goldwax LP.

Howdy - yep, those Goldwax tapes do exist and the swell folks at Ace UK recently released a big old Carr comp - all mono I believe (and I think at least some has been stereo before), and since I don't generally visit the dark end of the street I'll let someone else fill us in on the sonics on this 'un...
