...and why such a high price?

Sound?

Scarcity?

Can't find anything in Goldmine, either.

Hmmmmm......

Ben, this was a small audiophile company, I believe, out of Canada. I believe they only released about six or so titles, 1/2 Speed mastered. I have not heard any of these, but I have heard that "Green River" was very rare and sounded pretty good, but not great. Hope that helps.

Looks like they released 16 titles. See the attached address to John Harp's website where he lists all the Sweet Thunder titles. Like you, I have not heard of these before and can't speak to their sound but I have noticed a couple of titles going for big bucks.

Remember, big collectable price does not always equate to big audiophile sound.

I think the price is due to a limited availability.

Sweet Thunder joined the 1/2 speed mastering on quality vinyl that was in fashion at the time (ca. 1980-1982; I can't recall). Like MoFi and Nautilus, it too was based in California. I don't think the mastering was as special as was their choice of using German Teldec vinyl. The Teldec vinyl was not as quiet as the glass hard toxic JVC Super Vinyl, but the Teldec was quieter than the regular pressings and remarkably free of warping.

The most easily accessible/available LPs are the Greg Lake and Rick Wakeman Journey to the Center of the Earth (or is it Centre?). The rare ones include Frampton Comes Alive and Supertramp Even in the Quietest Moments. Unless someone else knows better, the Frampton LP is the rarest Sweet Thunder of all. I have seen that one going for as much as $400 sealed and that was back in 1993.

I'll admit I have been looking for the Brother's Johnson Light Up the Night for about ten years now.

Unless you really want that CCR LP for reasons other than the sound, I recommend you ask Humorem if he has a copy for sale and ask him for his opinion. He had this one a few years ago.

The Analogue Productions LP reissue probably possesses the best sound quality of all and it's cost is only $25.00.
