I finally found a CD of Nat King Cole's Love Is The Thing. It's fantastic like the other two.My question, there is an unlisted version of Stardust(what a song!)tacked onto the end of track 15.Is this common to all CD's?Thanks.

"Stardust" is on all the DCC versions of Nat's "Love Is The Thing" Gold CD's.

And I agree, this CD sounds amazing. To me, nothng beats that late 1950s Capitol Records stuff. All Tube, engineered to perfection, Scotch 111 tape.

I believe its ONLY on the DCC versions because it was a mistake, I think Steve said that it was a happy accident that Stardust was tacked onto the end of the tape reel and it got thru everyone.

Yes, Steve was mastering the DCC Gold CD of Nat Cole's "Love Is The Thing" in the studio with CNN doing an interview, filming as it was happening.

Steve gave them a clean"feed" version of "Stardust" without the echo for their "B Reel" Betacam audio (I know all the lingo!) Since "truth in broadcast news" is a rule with CNN (bless 'em), Steve mastered this dry version on camera at the end of the "Love Is The Thing" CD master tape.

Neat story, eh?

Yeah, that really happened, just like that.

I mastered that CD under hot lights, with a camera stuck in my face, wired for sound with a tiny microphone in my shirt and wearing make up, trying to act like I knew what the hell I was doing!

A very weird morning.
