Yeah, it's a reality show. Yeah, it's full of head games, lying, scheming, backstabbing, sex, and cruel twists. But I like it, and have see it every year since it's been on in this country. Several other countries have their own version of Big Brother, and it is equally successful in those places as well, except they stick closer to the original concept of the show, of the house guests raising their own animals and growing their own food.

For those who don't know (and may not care), it is a yearly thing where they pick 13 total strangers to live their lives in front of cameras and microphones 24/7 for three months. They even have a camera in the shower. These people have NO contact with the outside world, and are forced to put up with one another. They have NO television, no music, no computers, no books, or no newspapers. There's NO privacy, and Big Brother tells you what you can and can't do. You can leave, but if you do, you forfeit the prize money and can't come back. And it's in real time! It's happening right now on a secluded movie set in L.A.. You can watch the live cams on the internet, but you have to pay for it. There are both married and single people in there, of ages ranging from 18 to mid 40s.

BB will try to bribe the guests with money in exchange for the others suffering with things like eating peanut butter and jelly for a week. Every other week, one person with immunity picks two of his "houseguests" to be evicted. The following week, everyone schemes to manipulate things their way, and vote one of the people out.

In the past, the viewing audience did the voting, but it turned out that America always voted to boot the people they didn't like or didn't identify with. They changed that, because all that was left of the first BB is that the people left were all friends.

Last year, they threw people's ex-significant others in to aggravate things. THIS year, they threw two blood relatives in there, and have two sets of identical twins to stir the pot.

Anyway, I doubt the majority of you watch it, saying it is a low point in our culture, but *I* like it. So, if anyone here likes the show, post away!

I watched the entire season last year and some of the previous two years' episodes, but I'm planning to stay away this year until it gets close to the end. I do enjoy the show as it appeals to my voyeuristic side, but after spending a few months watching American Idol twice weekly I just don't want to add anything to my schedule where I will feel compelled to watch TV three nights per week. Since it's more difficult not to watch once you tune in and get interested in the personalities in the house, I'm planning to just not watch any of the first 2 1/2 months of the competition.

Only thing is, again, they stuck close to the formula of finding the usual stereotypes:

The frat jocks
the young, blond airhead
the gay guy
the big black guy
older, midwestern family guy
straight-arrow cowboy
tough, headstrong woman
an emotionally needy woman
the oddball woman
the woman who rhymes with "itch"

yopu know, the same old formular

I also enjoy the show. I'm a sucker for shows about people. It's fascinating to me.

I also love "The Amazing Race"!!:D

This season's twist (the newly discovered brother and half-sister) is compelling TV. Many in the house think its a fake-out but the cowboy seems very sincere.

In the past I've signed up for the 24/7 web cams that BB has on the Net but this time I don't have the time to get that much into the show.

It looks like it will be the "cool jocks" vs. "the regular people" once again. Every season seems to have a certain group deem themselves the "party" group and shun a few of the less "groovy" people.

Then usually the tide turns when a "geek" gets the HoH nomination.

Just like high school!

This cast seems much less compelling than those in years past, hence the "gimmicks"(like the brother/sister plotline, etc). Still, I usually watch this show. I just hope Sheryl Crow doesn't show up again this year! :D

I think the plan of the HOH is to get rid of the geeks, then concentrate on getting the females to turn against Marvin, sleep with a couple of them, and then make deals on who gets to stay. Problem is, it's barely been a week, and these guys already think they have it sewn up. The other is that some of the women are happily married. I don't think these hitched chicks are going to cheat like the ones in previous years did.

It was a smart move to put up Jennifer, because she is Michael's sister. You know that Cowboy would do all he can to protect her, even though I don't think the news has exactly sunk in her head yet, that Cowboy is her brother. The guy from Michigan must have been doing some real behind the back manuvering because the HOH didn't really want to get rid of him, I don't think. One of the jocks really wanted to get rid of Marvin because he is too big a threat. He's playing all the women bigtime. The women want to break up the jocks, so I hope one of them wins the next HOH.

But, BB has all kinds of things up it's sleeve to turn everything upside down. They have a new twist to the veto power, and we still have yet to see how switching out the two sets of twins is going to work.

I also must say that the Summer is the perfect time for these kind of shows (BB and The Amazing Race). Big dumb fun turn off your brain shows work great during the hazy lazy days of Summer.

I'm glad BB survived its first horrendous season and now is up to #5. I never thought they could do it.

There is definately an audience out there for them to have continued for five years, with an ever increasing budget! It seems few people will own up to watching it, or something like Jerry Springer, but they're still on the air, going strong. Somebody's lying about their viewing habits!:D

Well, for those who missed it last night, Michael was the first evicted from the house by a unanimous vote. Man! It's always the older guys who get booted out first. Young just doesn't trust the old, I guess. Michael, also called "The Don", was also one of the smartest players, and he was as big a threat as the "jock alliance". His downfall was coming off too bold from the outset.

Will, the gay guy, thought he was going to be able to be "one of the girls", until Diane told him they would only "carry him as far as they could".

Marvin won HOH this week, and if anyone besides one of the women can shake up the jocks, he can.

Thay also introduced us to one pair of the twins who are secretly switching places in the house every few days. No one has caught on yet.

I am a Big Brother fan since the beginning.

But, I completely boycotted Season 4 last year because it was people and their former loves (snooooooooooooze).

This year I am back!

They must all be blind....those twins aren't exactly alike...one is a bit plumper than the other.

I also see that Jen tamed down her purple hair to a softer yellow/green tint. Most of those girls don't dig her at all....and neither do the guys.

oh and btw.....have you noticed that in Adria's bio (the twin) that she is a fitness professional????

Yeah, but it got dirty at the beginning. Lots of hostility, so much that one guy walked out.

I've been hooked every season so far...This season looks to be a good one. I hope the 2 'muscle heads' go down big time. (What's with those headbands???). If I'm not mistaken, I think the 'air-head'blonde is just putting on an act as her strategy....not sure though.
Now if i can only remember all the different times this show is on and what days.....sheesh...every season they drive me crazy with the scheduling!
enjoy!

It is on tonight at 9PM EST followed by the Amazing Race.

Marvin is in control of the house this week. Wonder if he's had any ladies over at the Love Pad?:D

Marvin was pretty stupid. He allowed himself to be influenced by the very two guys who want him out of there. He also made a mistake by putting up the woman who took the money. If he had been smart, he would have nominated Scott and his buddy. But, there's always the veto...

JohnG

those two lunkheads (Scott and Jase) need some air taken out of their balloons. Sheesh! What a pair.

they seem to be way ahead of themselves at this point.....they better watch their backs cause someone will take them down pretty soon.

All it takes it the right HOH, and someone else getting the veto power.

Notice that all of the veto competitions have been athletic so far, and at lest one HOH compettition was mental? They have been putting all of their energy into strategy and showing off that they forgot about learning about their housemates In the last HOH compettition, they flunked out fast! Those jocks just aren't very observant. But, the ones who do watch are Will, Marvin, most of the women.

Woo-hoo! Drew just broke the alliance of the Four Horsemen! No, he didn't put any of them up, but he went against the horsemen and nominated Jase's little girlfriend and put her up agaunst the women's alliance, after they planned on him putting up Marvin and someone like Diane. They are peeved! Ha-hah! I love it! Now, all he has to do is make sure his choices aren't vetoed!

And, stupid Marvin needs to get a clue. No one likes him. I know why, but...
