View Full Version : History of Rock and Roll Documentary on DVD
This PBS series gets released this week finally on dvd. If your interested in picking it up I thought I would provide a heads up to a $20 rebate that will be available. Combine this with the sale price at best buy this week and it's a bargain off the list price.

What's on it?
These Adobe PDF things, what gives, my computer groans and chatters for about two minutes before I finally see a single page with not much on it?
It's a mail in $20 rebate form. Perhaps you need a more updated version of Adobe reader to read it correctly.

Thanks B&W, I can actually see the form, I was just wondering why they don't just show it as a web page that loads in a second or two, instead of the pdf. format that took about 2 minutes to come up?
But I'm not the most computer literate guy on the forum, so no need to try and fill me in. :)
And I'm afraid my real question was - what's on the DVD set - 60's to 80's? How many DVDs etc. Sorry I wasn't clear. I don't remember the PBS series.

John, it loads quick as a wink for me in Adobe. It appears to be a 5 DVD set. IIRC it's RnR from the 50's to the 80's or maybe even the 90's.

I find this tempting, though I'd probably want to skip the interview stuff after a while. I sure wish Time-Life would issue all those videos they show on their infomercials on DVD, though...

I remeber the documentry and I wasn't that impressed. Are they going to have bonus footage?
I wish it was Ken Burns-ish where they really go in depth like his Jazz series.

Thanks for the info everyone.
I echo that comment Bartels76, I've been asking for a revisit of the theme (Rock and Roll) similar to Scorcese's Blues.

I think I have this series on Laser Disc. I wonder it it will be the same. I also had the beatles Anthology on Laser Disc, but when it came out on DVD there was some extra material. Gosh, I often end up buying these things 3 times, first VHS, then LD and then DVD. Guess I'm a fan.
So this is the same set that came out years ago on 10 VHS tapes? I actually bought that VHS box set about five years ago. I watched it once, and thought it was decent. It had some rare, super old footage here and there, but mostly an overview of music, touching on the various genre's. With such a generic sounding title, I suppose there's a chance this is something different. The set I own used to be played on VH1 quite a bit, and I believe can be purchased as individual numbers, or, as I mentioned, as the entire set.

Anyone notice that the 60's-era Who got short shrift in the book which accompanied this documentary? Just a couple of paragraphs, if I recall correctly. I was really surprised.
