View Full Version : Steve and vinyl collectors
I don't know anything about Glenn Miller on vinyl, but I've never seen this one before. Is it good?

No no no, I wouldn't. Fake stereo, weird label.
Go to ANY thrift store or Salvation army and get a real Glenn Miller LP on RCA-Victor in mono for 25 cents. They've gotta be everywere!
Or really go out on a limb and collect the original 78's. Probably only a couple of bucks each! :)
Gee, at those prices I'm almost tempted to start collecting vinyl again......"What's that! No honey I wasn't talking about spending more money on stereo stuff".:D
Psssst. Thanks Steve ( he whispers quitely);)

I was a lucky man recently when I found a mint late 40's 'Smart Set' of Glenn Miller 78's at my library's annual sale. The sound is fantastic! I've found a lot of Miller 78 singles over time at thrift stores and what not. All are the later RCA pressings, not the Blue Birds. Steve says they used the same stampers!
RCA had a superb reissue series in the mid to late 70's, I see them in the bins now and then. There were a few volumes, and every one was a two LP set. They even reprinted the original Blue Bird label and included some alternate takes. Highly reccomended. Very good transfers for the most part, and sounds like they mostly used the stampers and even laquers (on the alternate takes).

Steve is right. Get the RCA Victor mono Glenn Miller LP's or the 78's and for an excellent mono CD with surface noise intact, get the RCA 1985 CD "Unforgettable Glenn Miller" which does have only 16 tracks, but the 16 tracks are well chosen.
